Super User roadwarrior Posted November 14, 2022 Super User Posted November 14, 2022 I have NEVER had an issue with my reels, but I do have them serviced every other year. Currently I have 14 Shimano and 1 Diawa. Quote
shackman Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Rods, no Reels, yes..only Japanese made Shimano’s that I’ve had for years. Cores, curado’s, citica’s and chronarch’s. Never even had a level wind pawl fail. They just work Quote

What could you tell me about them? If you serviced your reels, would know what I'm talking about. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 15, 2022 Super User Posted November 15, 2022 I have had no issues with my reels for more than 25 years. What more could I ask from a company? Quote
PressuredFishing Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 For quality yes+service+price absolutley, for name no. Quote
swhit140 Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 I have Daiwa reels & service them myself, rods I like trying different brands/actions/models. Sometimes I'll try different brands of rods and sell some that I don't like as much as others. Never ending cycle of things to try 1 Quote

You are barely an anecdotal evidence. I listed the problems, you seem to be unable to comment on them... Maybe if you serviced your own reels, you would understand my point. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 15, 2022 Super User Posted November 15, 2022 I have no response because I have NEVER encountered any problems with my reels. "Servicing" my reels means cleaning, nothing more. As far as I know, all of the Shimanos I have ever owned are still being fished. I don't sell my reels, but give them to friends. Those include the original Stradic, Sustain, Stella, Core and Calcutta. 4 Quote

All the problems I listed were noted on US scene first, very well-known problems. What we really get is 2nd-tier post-sale support. Quote
Rockytop Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 I'm not brand loyal at all. I have Lew's, Abu, and 13 Fishing reels. Falcon, Duckett, Cashion, 13 Fishing, and some old All Pro rods. I get what feels good to me and what I can afford. I service my reels every winter and still have some cheaper reels that are 25+ years old. 1 Quote

So help me out and try to make me realize the so called "MB" you feel is so critical. I like many others read about the dreaded MB and even went as far to buy the "The Fix" from the Tackle Trap which still sits in its wrapper . Why is it still in its wrapper because I like many others have not experienced the issue . Here is a list of my Shimano Reels that have been maintained by me over the last 25 years without failure which includes DC Reels since they first came out. So wether I have maintained my own or RW had someone else do his the point is they have performed without an issue. 4 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 17, 2022 Super User Posted November 17, 2022 ^^^ this guy knows. Happens to be a good buddy of mine. His maintenance routine would put most of the YouTube dorks to shame. btw, call me @Maico1 lol. I got a story for you buddy. Quote

May I put you in the same corner as the ''My Ford Pinto never ignited itself'' or ''My Takata airbargs work like charm''? Yet I don't see the Met 2019 and it's derivatives in your list. Where are are the Curados K and their low-quality disengaging system?? You must allert Shimano to stop fixing without cost those reels affected by the met buzz! You with these reels should send them back to Shimano for them being analyzed, since Shimano itself reduced the use of duralumin main gearing. Daiwa, Doyo, Banax, Dawon and Haibo are able to make duramulin-geared reels without any problems. Quote

No I'm not, even more so because I avoided these newer Shimano reels. And yet, these reels are covered under extended warranty without costs, being very well-known in the angling scene. Facts don't care about your feeling, sorry. Quote
Motoboss Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Reels: Shimano Rods: G Loomis Kinda happened accidentally. Started with one, like the quality, feel and performance so bought another. Now I have six rigs with varying capabilities for different methods. Just now getting into BFS and the first three reels are Shimano SLX’s on three different JDM rods. I’m liking them so far. I like going with a proven system that works for me. P-Line and Power Pro lines fit that same idea too. Baits, anything that works but mostly Berkley, Zoom, Rapala and Z-Man. 1 Quote
