Hi all,

I picked up some swinging swim jigs recently and I think I’m going to like them a lot. They are even more weed friendly than regular swim jigs and come through really clean. My only gripe is that my keitech got mauled after just two bass. On a normal swimjig I can get a half dozen fish before it starts getting torn up and then you can glue them to get some more out of it. Since the hook is through the back, more skinny part, that area tears up pretty fast. I’m going to try some more durable  paddle tails (suggestions always appreciated) but are there any other trailers that particularly work well on one?  I’m going to try some elaztech (razor shads and maybe a boar hogz) for obvious reasons. I’m going to check the magnum rage menace and see if it’s big enough for the hook gap. Any other particularly good options I should check also?

thanks

rick

I have some Stanford baits big show to try also.  I picked them up for a chatterbait trailer but I don’t love it for that. It’s a durable plastic and the right length here though so we’ll see what the action is.

The Xzone Swammer and Zoom swimming super fluke both give a swimjig lots of roll.  The drawback is both of those baits arent very durable.

The R2S D walker would be a good choice.  It has a decent amount of roll and its more durable then previous mentioned baits.

I would recommend investing in a big bottle of mend it.  It pays for itself in a hurry.

plastics are cheap and they are getting bit so i would stick with what you are using.

while I generally agree with that sentiment (and if the answer is that the keitech SIF is the right choice I’ll pay it), at $6 for a pack of 5 (these are the 4.8) to get two fish from a swimbait makes for an expensive day.

Try the Biospawns on a swimjig, or the Jackall. IMO the Jackall are a little thin for that kind of presentation. Both are made of tougher material. Action will be different than the Fat Impact though.

Well that’s your problem right there… you’re catching too many fish! Just do what I do and catch one or two. It’s a lot less expensive.

Cleaning up my desk I found another trailer that fell out of favor with me on chatterbaits but that will work great here. SK blade minnow. I have a couple colors here and I threw one on the jig I was fishing yesterday. Looks pretty good and I know the action it will have. Also pictured is the Stanford big show.  Both for anyone to reference in the future. Jig is a string king tour grade swinging swim jig in half ounce.

Is that the lobster or the craw?  I think I have a craw here to check out.  That's a nice hunk of plastic in the back to texpose into.

Strike King's Swinging Swim Jig & Ragetail's Lobster

I work it more on the bottom than up in the water column.

thanks.  That's how I work mine as well a lot of the time.  I'll swim it along a lane/cut in the grass and where that cut comes to a hole I'll kill it.  If I can't see the grass I'll cast the edges and bottom bounce it a lot.  I'll pick up a pack of lobsters next time I'm out or order.

Eco Pro Tungsten Swing Shad is similar to the Keitech's. But they're more durable and cheaper. Not as many colors tho.

$3.50 for a 5-pack compared to $6 for a 6-pack of Keitech. Not sure why more people don't talk about them.

I fished the SK blade minnow for a bit last night.  I can't say I love it in the water.  It gives a decent profile but the action isn't there for me.  If you are adding a lot of action through the tip of the rod and especially if you're going erratic then great.  Stroking a jig I think it would be good.  At higher speeds in the water it will give the erratic swimming action, but at normal reeling in speeds its just kinda 'there'.  It didn't have any body roll (I didn't really expect that) and it didn't have a tail flick (I thought it would).  For how I fish a swim jig I need one of those two things so this isn't the one for me.

Storm Largo Shad. The tail section has a piece that can be torn off to change the action, so you can customize the action based on the jig you're throwing.

I agree for a normal swim jig.  I have largos in the box.  For this swinging swim jig though they aren't long enough.  The hook ends up back in the skinny bit.

Rage Craw followed by Bitters little naked swimmer.

I have the same jigs and I use the Berkley Power Swimmers. They are long enough, durable, and have good action.  They have been my favorite so far.

Reins RockVibe might be what you're looking for.  I haven't put them on a swim or swing jig, but I think they might have the length, durability and action you are looking for.

They do quite well on swimbait swimbait heads and hooks.

I just checked some other plastics yesterday. The regular rage craw fits pretty well as does the space monkey. I’m going to give them both a ry next time out. They will certainly have action. The magnum menace rage trailer fits too. I think the regular 4” should also. These would be ideal since I carry them already.

meanwhile, rigged and on the rod is a keitech.
