Super User LrgmouthShad Posted September 4, 2022 Super User Posted September 4, 2022 Hey ya’ll, So I recently ordered a rather large order of spinnerbait making materials and am looking forward to it arriving. Fall, Winter, Spring is spinnerbait season for me so I stocked up. I am looking to tie my own rubber skirts on and include some accents in the skirt for a little added flash and color. Curious what material and color you like to accent your spinnerbaits with. I’ll be working with a white round rubber base and I did get some holographic Flashbou for some accent… not sure if that is the best material to use but it looked nice so I got various colors. Finally do you prefer to accent a specific side of the skirt I.e bottom, top, sides and will braided line be an effective thread? Thank you! Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 4, 2022 Super User Posted September 4, 2022 I don't think it's needs to be exact. Just getting sort of in the ball park is usually good enough. A-Jay 5 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted September 4, 2022 Super User Posted September 4, 2022 Any accent I use is at the bottom as well as the trailer. Chartreuse mixed in the white is a great combination for any color of water. 1 Quote

A-Jay When you posted the photo of your champion spinnerbait I noticed immediately how much it resembled a perch.... probably about the right length too. That orange highlight on the head is awesome. .... Maybe don't worry about my spinnerbait suggestion... i think you are pretty well dialed in 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted September 7, 2022 Super User Posted September 7, 2022 Pure white I would add like 3 or 4 strands to the sides or some black on the back? I am not the expert on simple spinnerbait colors though? Kind of have this OCD thing going on with mine. Allen 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted September 7, 2022 Super User Posted September 7, 2022 For LMB I have found the one color that seems to do better than all others is black. Add a little blue for accent. 1 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 7, 2022 Super User Posted September 7, 2022 The only accent I add to to my white spinnerbaits is a trailer hook. 1 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted September 7, 2022 Super User Posted September 7, 2022 Accents and matching the hatch gives me more confidence. Lures are the only thing I have ever done in my life that is artistic. Allen 5 Quote
Bdnoble84 Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 I like to put my accent on the sides i.e. lateral line. But really it depends what im going for. I do this more with hair jigs that skirted jigs. Almost any hair pattern i do has a couple of strands of crystal flash for a lateral line. I try and use flash colors that fit in the color scheme. On crawfish type patterns i usually go for some sort of gold or copper. Baitfish patterns, i go with silver or pearl. Both will get green on occasion. I also like to use red thread as i feel this gives the appearance of gills. Now whether or not the fish buy that is another story. like AJ said. Close is usually good enough. 1 Quote
