Ford vs. Chevy? I've always been a Shimano guy... Stradics have always served me well but I wouldn't not use a Diawa... I believe they make a great product as well

For finesse fishing, IMO light weight spinning setup is essential. Tatula LT is a great light weight reel, tough enough and smooth enough for that task. On Shimano camp, the more suitable choice would be the new light weight Vanford instead of the heavier Stradic FL.

PS: I feel like this is a topic for the reels and rods section. Admin may move it there eventually.

I think I misclicked it, whoops

I agree with @newapti5 about the Vanford. I have both Daiwa and Shimano. They're both great. One thing I do prefer is to go with JDM versions with slower gear ratios. Makes for pretty much zero rotor inertia which is beneficial when finesse fishing and one really doesn't notice any speed disadvantage. USD/JDM exchange rates really favor us now, too. I like Digitaka for price and shipping speed.

Both are excellent reels, was just curious which I should get, light light line 3lb hair jigs and such, light action rod. Let me know!

I always tend for the worm-gear based spinning reel. Yet Daiwa's transverse cam system has the same line-laying capabilities and with improved robustness.

The 2000 Tatula LT is very compact and smooth. I have one of my three on my ultra light, and it performs great. I think I have thousands of fish on it.
but both a Tat and a Stradic would be nice, but the new Stradic reels are way heavier. I’d go Tatula

Just ordered, went with didgitaka, I waited for the exchange rate to be perfect, got it for 135 lol. I decided to go with the tatula based on lightness. Also got plenty of Japanese toys that look fun, and for dirt cheap.

Instead of a Stradic* look at Vanford 1000, 5.3oz, long cast spool. 15% off this weekend!

Tom

* I have a 90’s era 1000 & 2500 Stradic reels still going smooth and strong but too heavy for good balance with todays light weight rods. Now using Vanfords.

You'll like it. I prefer the Stradic, Ci4, and Ballist MQ over the tatula because they feel a little more refined but the tatula is a very nice reel. Just picked up a Vanford to try out. Still can't get over that name. They will have an astrovan coming out soon I heard.

For finesse fishing I would choose the Vanford.

I had two of the stradic FL 1000 with the 5 gear ratio. While they were nice, they were a little on the heavy side. They're really not that heavy but they felt heavy in the hand. Got rid of them and went with two Vanford 1000 size instead. Never looked back.

The Vanfords are lighter and seems like less inertia to spin the handle. They pair up with most lightweight rods great.

Other options from shimano would be the Complex XR and Soare XR. Pretty much a Vanford in a different package. I dont have a Soare but I do have three Complex XR's. I prefer their color over the Vanford.

The Daiwa LT reels are also great reels. Can't really go wrong with them either. I own several in the 1000 to 2000 size. Very comparable to the shimano's.

Interesting...I've always choose the normal Stradics.  To me, they've resulted in better balance with the rod and felt more neutral in hand.

one thing to consider is I know in some daiwa reels they have removed the line roller bearing.

not sure if the Tatula was one of them but if so, it may not be as line friendly because of this??

I went with the Stradic because the Tatula was made in China. Waiting on delivery from digitaka now.

I have several of both.  both are fantastic reels.  I think the tatula LT is the best value available.  Stradic is more solid and has less flex in the stem, but heavier for sure.  I choose the stradic when the extra weight is needed to balance a rod (st croix) or i plan to fish inshore.

vanford's are great too, but honestly not that much better than a tatula IMO.  they spin up very quickly with very little force as compared to stradic

However, you can get a JDM luvias for under $200 right now.  I am taking one of these in a shallow spool at that price point over any of these.
