I go when I can.  Between a job, family, and the weather, I don't get the luxury of worrying about whether the fish are biting or not.

Besides, I don't fish to catch fish.  I fish to fish.  Being out in nature, listening to what the environment is trying to tell you, putting the puzzle together... just being able to quiet and focus your mind on one task is such a luxury in today's world.  Two weeks ago I didn't catch a thing, but a muskrat swam right up to me and ate some leaves for a while.  I didn't move a muscle and just watched him do his thing.  I had never seen one in the wild before, and this one got really close.  Made my day.

It's a Safe - Bet I wouldn't worry about asking him to go and just show him some fish pics of my last trip or 10. Trying to convince folks to go fish is way way way down on the list of my duties.

am i the only one who agrees with your friend?

No. Different strokes. You're perfectly fine.

I've been banged up this year and have missed a bunch of time. I recently fished with one of the dudes who I like to fish with for the first time in months. He was so happy I was back, almost gushing, because his other friends fish differently and he finds it very boring. He's a younger guy, half my age, and I explained that not everyone plays the same game, and that's OK for them. He used the chess vs checkers analogy, but I said "not really". For them maybe it's monopoly. Maybe it's pinochle. There's nothing wrong with those games, if that's what you like. They're just not fun for me/him.

Many years ago, my GF and I took the boat and went fishing on a relatively shallow lake on a calm; clear bluebird sky day. I did not expect to do well because of conditions and after some casting around, I took a break and stretched out on the seat. My GF continued on, not having the experience to know that it wasn't the kind of day conducive to bassing, when she hooked and landed the only bass of the day and a good sized one too. You never know.

I get out as much as I can. It will never be enough. This week it will be Thursday and Friday. I love doing back to back days. Bass biting? I don’t know, I caught smallies my last time out and figure they will be hitting again. Severe weather or a family emergency could change things. I’ll deal with the weather the man upstairs brings me those days. I’ll be fishing to break my PB Smallie. If it doesn’t happen my day will be fine. The majority of the time I fish alone. Days fishing with grandson are more of a special time. I enjoy fishing alone because I don’t have anyone that want to fish seriously.

Well that begs the question, what is the benchmark PB you are trying to break?

A friend who guides on Toledo Bend has a favorite saying, the bass are always biting somewhere, it's our job to find somewhere.

I worry about the weather, and that is about it.  Even if I don't catch anything I learn something about the water I'm fishing.

I knew a guy years ago who only fished in the springtime. He caught scores of buck bass and a couple of bigger bed fish also. Everyone thought he was a hot stick.             I figured out pretty quickly that he really wasnt that good. Get him out there on a hot summer day fishing deep, and he burned out quickly.     Lots of guys could do what he was doing.

I have two things that make or break a planned outing.

1: Weather.

2: Someone to keep the wife company while I'm out.

I go fishing when I can.  Sometimes I catch a BUNCH.  Sometimes I don't.  However, I have fun regardless of how many I catch.

I bought my boat in Dec 2021 and started back fishing after 30 years.   I've caught bass every week except 1 since then.

I think there's a song that says "A bad day fishing is better that a good day of anything else"  or something like that.

I know; That's huge!

As far as the question, I like fishing new water. I like not knowing where the fish are. I'll be fishing my eleventh new pond/lake/swamp this Friday. I'm not even sure if there are bass there, but I wanna poke here and nudge there and see if I can find 'em.

What's a safe bet is me getting on the water as much as possible. If I'm catching them, great! If not, I'm still out on the water enjoying life's pleasures. When its a tough day, I just chalk it up to a learning experience and get ready for the next outing.

Nothing close to breaking a PB this morning but grateful for my time out. Management (3) @ 14”-14+“. I know that doesn’t seem like much but they came out of the same short stretch of a chunk rock bank. They were healthy respectable fish. Pulled off a few dinks and runts prior and past that stretch. I’m not gonna kick been a weird summer. I’ll be right back in that stretch tomorrow morning. I had a largemouth on for a short duration within my first handful of casts, no real prize but in that 14”-15” size, got what seemed like 3 ft. out of water and spit a Big ‘O’. Gonna hit that spot first and see if he’ll hit again. Didn’t throw anything but crankbaits this am. Cottons, Bombers and Bandits.

I used to only go on days when I thought the fishing would be good.  Nowadays, I go whenever I can fit it into my schedule.  Even if the fishing is not good, I enjoy being in nature and learning something new.  I always make a plan of scouting a new area and working on a new presentation.  And I've been trying to improve using my Livescope.  So even if the fishing isn't great, I can still have a very good day.  Plus, I need to get out of the house and recharge the batteries after working all week.  There is no better way than spending a day on the water.

^^^ THIS^^^

I wasn't expecting much last night. Weeds are dead or dying, thermocline has gotten shallower and less defined, schools of bait everywhere, lots of fish suspended offshore... I went out, and for three hours, I WRECKED "EM!!! Best trip in a month and a half. If I had D-B's friends attitude, I wouldn't even have gone.

When I’m fishing to eat, I go where and when  I know I’ll catch some.

With bass fishing, I’ll go anyway.
