my friend wont go fishing with me much anymore.  he said, "i only want to go if i know the bass are biting".  i feel like, "What fun is that?".  okay, lots of fun.  sure.

 

but i like taking some chances.  i wish gas prices were more budget friendly but it is what it is.  (spanish lesson:  if you spell S.O.C.K.S - you pretty much said "it is what it is" in spanish..hahah)  i think i get frustrated with tough bass fishing, but i learn stuff.  tough lakes and rivers make me a better fisherman i hope.  i like to go to new lakes as well as lake i got skunked at to see if i can somehow crack the code.  eventually, i will put it together.

In the Mid South we have unlimited options that all have the potential for a great day of

fishing. I fish several Tennessee River reservoirs, but mostly Pickwick because it's close

and I keep my boat on the lake.

But the only way I can 'know if the bass are biting'

is to go fishing and find out.

I will say that seasonally speaking, 

my expectations change a bit here & there.

If you fish enough, you will learn which days/conditions/time of year generally produces better or worse in the bass fishing realm (and other species too).  But to say "only when the fish are biting" is foolish and stubborn.  Maybe he just doesn't want to fish in 105 degree heat @Darth-Baiter.  That part I can understand lol

thats how i tried to explain it to him.  

 

i suppose he thinks:  if he has a bad day, at least it is at an easy access nearby lake.  i like to go and explore.  half the battle is just going.  showing up.

The problem with your friend's stance is they were always biting yesterday. You should a been there! You know, to each his own. Most of us on this board are pretty much fanatical about it. But the vast majority of people don't get a lot of enjoyment out of grinding out 3 bites in the dog days heat or 1 bite in the winter.

Actually it translates to that yes that is (eso si que es) literally, and means that is truly so, or for sure.

Native speaker here, and we used to laugh at those language course commercials

The only safe bet as far as I’m concerned is if there’s water where I’m going and will it float the boat. Fortunately where I’m fishing there’s usually two high tides a day. It’s all good from there…

am i the only one who agrees with your friend? when i go to fish, i don't want to have to turn all sorts of mental and physical gymnastix to get ... a bite...  i've switched to blue gill this summer,. i may return to bass later. i'm between your friend and i guess guys here...

Your friend doesn't Want to go fishing he wants to go catching, don’t we all.

If you enjoy tough bass fishing go south and try lake Casitas, good kayak lake but it takes 35 days to get quagga mussel inspected and approved.

One of my favourite lakes is very clear, and tough to fish. I've struck out many times here. But, I keep going back because I like the challenge of catching these spooky, clear water bass. If the bass were always biting good, there wouldn't be a challenge and new things to learn.

He sounds boring. Shooting fish in a barrel gets boring quickly. If you feel like you need a fishing buddy then try to find a hardcore grinder type. They're rarely boring, and are the only people I'll fish with.

I fished in a club for 10 years and we had 12 tournaments a year.  There was one tournament where the temperature was 10 degrees and only 6 boats fished.  Only two fish were caught that day.  The other 119 tournaments someone always had a good day.  

 

The lesson I learned.  The fish are always bitting for someone.  It up to the angler to be that someone.

Some people just don’t have the passion for fishing that some of us do.

You can’t catch fish if you don’t have your bait(or lure) in the water.

Rather be standing on deck or a bank tossing bait out than sitting on a soft couch….with a/c….( wait ) a fridge full of beer a few steps……hot or cold and expose to the elements….hmmmm watching TV… maybe we need to rethink our thought process……..

It sounds like your friend doesn't really like fishing that much? I'd rather go, and scratch out a couple of fish, then not go at all.
