ghost Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 I've thrown swimbaits, and glides baits now and then and have not caught a bass on one, till earlier this evening. Used a 1oz Ima glide bait, swam it, did quarter turns on the handle and also did twitches. This lure casts far, it does helicopter but I added a split ring and swivel to lessen the line twist. I did swim it and after a couple twitches....BAM! Hooked a nice 2-3lb bass! Notice the stripes on its side, looks to me like a Florida strain largemouth. Both the size 4 Owner table hooks pinned the bass real good. Now I have confidence with glide baits and will be pulling out my other 1oz Ima and G-Ratt glides. How do you guys fish your glide baits? I noticed the bass were not hitting my shallow crankbaits, so this time around I switched it up and it paid off! I gotta say, that was fun! 10 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted August 30, 2022 Super User Posted August 30, 2022 Swim it, glide it, chop it, pause it, and whatever until I figure out they want anything but a glide bait, which is the norm. 2 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted August 30, 2022 Super User Posted August 30, 2022 I fish my glides a number of ways, some like GreenPig mentioned. A few years ago, actually more like 9 yrs. ago, I was fishing some really stained water, almost chocolate, about 25' from shore, I got antsy and did about 3 turns of my reel very fast, read ( burn) I then let my bait sit for about 5 to 7 seconds, then gave it a twitch, to my surprise a nice chunky 5 lb bass Smacked it. Anyway, try numerous retrieves to which works for your waters. Oh, and you can also sorta slow roll your glide sub surface too. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 30, 2022 Global Moderator Posted August 30, 2022 Just like any other bait, a lot of variables go into deciding how I'm going to fish my glides. That's a lot of hardware you put on the front of that little bait, and no doubt is effecting how it works. The spinning on the cast is only going to cause minimal line twist and I wouldn't be so worried about it that I'd want to add a bunch of weight to a small glide like that. My best day of glide bait fishing this year, I was fishing the bait very fast. 8 Quote
