A few years back I was on a quest to replace my fleet of Zebco Cardinal 3's and 4's. I bought a bunch of the Quantum Energy reels. Day 1 at the lake...I go to set the hook and the bail flips. I was like WT_. It happens again...then  again. The line was never making it over to the line roller. Next day...they all got boxed up and returned. This may have not been a problem if I was manually closing the bail with my hand. I was just in the habit of using the handle to close the bail (this is just how older reels worked).

Yes sir.  I talked a guy kayak fishing last weekend that said he would only buy Lews because of KVD. When I asked about Quantum, he was clueless.  KVD does have a fan base and his pull with them is strong.

This is just... Pathetic?

I see Quantum the same as any other brand that isn’t Abu, Daiwa, or Shimano. They may not be bad, but everything that they can do, the previously stated companies can do better for the same price or less. For instance, I had a Quantum Accurist for a short time. My Black Max reels outperformed in it every way. The only thing I liked more about the Accurist was that it had an aluminum frame.

I’ve had a Quantum Tour S3 for about a year now. The noise doesn’t bug me because I am too busy loving the incredible distance I get on every cast, the smooth drag and the overall fit and finish of the reel. I have a Curado 70 mgl and a Curado DC and I like both but I keep reaching for that Quantum…. And they are very heavily discounted if you know where to find em which makes it a no-brainer for me to buy a few more with my next reel purchase dollars.

I have currently about 6 of the older all chrome TE reels from around 06 and 2 of the older Energy PT from the same time period. Had many more, but fell victim to a burglary last year. That said I honestly still feel that once the ACS is dialed in (can be finicky) for the user to feel comfortable using it; these things can be tanks. I also have an Okuma Helios Air which in my opinion is a great reel as well that doesn’t get a lot of shine.

I am a Shimano guy, period. I had a Smoke 100 PT that I had no problem, ever.  Sold it here on BR, FAST.   I currently have my only non-Shimano,  an EXO 100PT.  I fish it and have a very hard time finding any fault with it.

I have a KVD smoke, for the price it is really hard to beat. The ONLY thing that stopped me from buying anymore is that it’s so d**n heavy. Most if not all of my other reels are under 6.5oz, some under 6 and compared to them to me the KVD smoke feels like an anchor. I also had one of the KVD Lews reels, I was not impressed, seemed like just another Lews reel to me.
