His guests seem to enjoy spending time with him...I wouldn't mind a day on the water with Zona...it wouldn't be boring... 4 Quote

No disrespect and I appreciate his work. I would say I am quite the weird critter myself but oftentimes I find myself thinking "huh?" after some comment he makes on bassmaster live tournaments. When I was watching more tournaments I picked up the habit for days of going "ooohhhHH" kinda like he did in a couple tournaments and my roommate at the time wondered if I was okay and asked me to stop ? 1 Quote

I still get a kick out of one of his 'Live' shows....him and long-time friend KVD were fishing a lake in Michigan. Kevin gets a good one and Zona gives him a 'smack'. Ya...he's a character. 3 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted September 2, 2022 Super User Posted September 2, 2022 My kinda wierd. I'd love to spend a day chasing smalljaws with him. Super User Deleted account Posted September 2, 2022 Super User Posted September 2, 2022 A lot of TV and social media anglers develop an on air entertainer persona, There are many fantastic anglers who would put folks to sleep in 5 minutes, It is a business after all. 3 Quote
Captain Phil Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 I like Zona. I especially liked his old fishing show. He's not your average boring TV host. He knows tournaments and what the anglers are going through. When you get right down to it, watching 100 anglers reel up two pound bass all day can get pretty boring. The last tournament on the upper Mississippi was the best or the worst depending upon how you felt about it. 2 Quote

At least day 1 that I saw I’ve watched some tournaments that are a lot more exciting, but sometimes, I think you are right… sometimes watching good fishing is like watching paint dry. I try to pick stuff up as I’m watching a tournament. Sometimes I watch em, sometimes I don’t, but I try and learn. Quote
Captain Phil Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 Bass tournament are great for the sport. Anglers benefit from the knowledge they gain. They wake up local government officials and businesses to the financial benefits of good fishing. They sell a lot of boats, accessories and tackle. That said, I don't view bass tournaments as riveting TV. I suspect they televise them to please the sponsors? I record them and fast forward to the good parts. Thank God for Zona or I wouldn't make it through. 1 Quote

Skunkmaster-k Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 Zona is hilarious. The episode he dedicated to Aaron Martens was awesome. 4 Quote
Fishlegs Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 Aren't we all weird in our own way? No doubt he's different, but I enjoy his show. I watch it whenever I can. I usually decide to keep watching a fishing show based on whether or not I'd go fishing with the host. I'd go fishing with Zona. I bet it would be a trip you'd never forget. 1 Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted September 2, 2022 Super User Posted September 2, 2022 He puts the fun in fishing. Enjoy his show and he is a good angler Quote

NavyToad Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 He parlayed his personality into one heck of a gig. I like him. He and my nephew could pass for twins. 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted September 3, 2022 Super User Posted September 3, 2022 Zona's show is always set to record at my house. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted September 3, 2022 Super User Posted September 3, 2022 I've always been a fan...brings a big shot of personality into an otherwise business forward by the books type of job. He can be serious tho and I appreciate that...his tribute to Aaron Martens is moving. 2 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted September 3, 2022 Super User Posted September 3, 2022 Getting Kevin to sing "kicking a dead horse" was priceless!!! I laugh every time I see it. It's such an out of character moment for KVD. Nobody else would have got him to do it. Some funny episodes with Fieder, Hackney, Martens... He brings the fun side out of all his guests. Super User A-Jay Posted September 3, 2022 Super User Posted September 3, 2022 When I first retired & moved to Michigan, I definitely needed a crash course / refresher on fishing for brown bass. Mark Zona seems to be fishing in places & in a manner that suited my style. I watched several of his early videos and learned a TON of exactly what I needed. From tubes & swingheads to A-Rigs & jerkbaits. Quite a bit of my early success can be directly attributed to his stuff. A couple of years ago when I was shopping for my rig, I saw him at a sports show near Detroit and I got to tell him as much. Saying Thank you didn't seem like nearly enough. Despite his on camera presentation, I found him to be perhaps a little zany, but for the most part, a regular & humble dude. Besides, he's a fellow paisan. A-Jay 3 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted September 3, 2022 Super User Posted September 3, 2022 Anybody that dedicates an entire show to Spoonplugging is OK in my book 4 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted September 28, 2022 Author Super User Posted September 28, 2022 Man this commentary had me cracking up, I have to admit. Zona talking about Hackney. 1:26:14 and onward is what you want. 1 Quote
