DN3 Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 Tatula Elite vs Curado MGL 150…which would you choose and why? Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 I don't have the Tatula Elite, so I can't give a direct comparison, but I do have the Curado MGL and really like it. Haven't had it very long though so can't speak to its life expectancy. I do however have multiple Daiwas ranging from Fuego, CT Type R, Tat100, both models of Tat SV, Alphas SV TW, and a Zillion G. In my opinion, I like the Daiwas for close work in and around cover where the mag brakes shine, and I like my Shimanos where I am making long casts. I currently have my Curado MGL on a Dobyns 704cb throwing shallow cranks and jerkbaits. It works great for that! I have heard the Tat Elites are better for long casting than most the other Daiwas though. 3 Quote

ska4fun Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 The standard Tatula elite is a all-round longcaster, one of the best in daiwa portfolio. As always, its build is stronger, higher quality than any modern curado. Maybe gearer, but way more reliable. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted August 29, 2022 Super User Posted August 29, 2022 I don't have an Elite, but many other Tatulas are solid reels. The Elite is supposed to cast further. The Curado MGL 150 isn't bad either, but the gem in the Shimano line is generally the MGL70. As long as you are not using heavy line - it will hold enough 16# fluorocarbon. Typically, Daiwa is better for short, accurate casts and Shimanos cast further. Both are solid reels. Quote
txchaser Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 I know this doesn't directly answer your question but... at the moment, the Tatula Elite doesn't really have a good spot in the Daiwa lineup because the Daiwa Zillion G JDM smokes it, and can be had on amazon japan for $216. 2 Quote

It doesn’t matter how good the elite or the MGL are when you can get a zillion for 16 bucks more. EDIT: Sorry Amazon Japan actually has the zillion SV for $212 right now (6:00am EST) 1 Quote

I saw one for around $206 but it’s Japanese writing in the title and I don’t know exactly what it is Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted September 25, 2022 Super User Posted September 25, 2022 Digitaka has them for $230 if you don't want to deal with Amazon...worth the extra IMO. https://www.digitaka.com/items/4/4/2/ZILLION+SV+TW 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted September 25, 2022 Super User Posted September 25, 2022 I'm not Daiwa expert, but really like my Tatula SX 103. Can one of the experts here explain to me the differences I would find between the Tatula Elite and the Zillion? thanks, Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted September 25, 2022 Super User Posted September 25, 2022 Unless I'm skipping a lure, I don't recommend any SV reels in the Daiwa lineup. I have both Tatula Elites and an MGL. Both great reels... They both cast much farther than an SV reel, would say the Elite casts slightly farther than the MGL.. but the MGL might palm slightly easier for some. If I had to choose one reel over the other would be the Elite. Casts a country mile, dependable, etc. Quote

Have you had a chance to try out the new Zillion G? SV Boost isn't like standard SV. It's quite a bit better for distance than SV, and not all that forgiving for skipping. It's not the reel for those who need a SV reel to skip. Quote

And if you look at the link you can see what it is from the english writing. Also when you hover over the pic you can see it says zillion on the reel. https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Daiwa-Gillion-1000HL-Handle-Model/dp/B08NP3F5MV/ Quote
