KP Duty Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 I don't watch golf on tv or play golf...didn't know anything about this guy. However, there is a pic going around with him wearing crazy pants next to a well dressed golfer. I've seen it all over the place with different captions. Some people love him...othets do not. So I googled daly and found a video that made me think I'd want to hang out with him. Quote

NavyToad Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 I don’t golf, but I’m a huge fan. I’m watching right now. Daly was as talented as anyone, but his lifestyle got the best of him IMO. He’s always danced to the beat of a different drum which accounts for his enduring popularity. He’s a 2 time major winner (PGA Championship and British Open). 1 Quote

NavyToad Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Forgot to mention that the well dressed golfer in all those memes is Tiger Woods. 1 Quote

I never cared for golf, but much respect to Payne Stewart for pulling off the vintage golf pantaloon look in stride. He's (was) the Bryan Kershal of golf... 1 Quote
GReb Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Tiger woods has said he’s the most talented golfer on the planet and had twice as much talent as him. I remember Tiger saying that after a round Daly drank 2 bottles of bourbon and next day shot 67 and beat him. Or something similar. 2 Quote

During my google search, I learned he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Heavy drinking probably.had something to do with it. Quote
Woody B Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 I'm not a pro golf fan. I'm not a fan (or hater) of any pro sports. I saw a video this morning of Daly playing Zac Brown's guitar in front of Zac Brown. 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 I'm not a golf fan at all, but I'm a huge John Daly fan. I like folks that do things their own way. @Deleted account mentioned Payne Stewart, I liked him too. Quote

Super User DitchPanda Posted August 27, 2022 Super User Posted August 27, 2022 Heard an interviewer ask him one time: how much have you lost gambling? Daly thinks for a few seconds and casually says: oh I think around 50 million. Pretty sure I saw the second the interviewers sh$% hit his boxers. 1 Quote

Quote “Tiger’s there in his workout clothes and I said, ‘Tiger, come have a beer with us, man. I go, ‘Man, you don’t need to work out. You need to drink a little bit with us. “[Tiger] said, ‘If I had your talent, I’d be doing the same thing you’re doing. I’m looking at him thinking, ‘You’re crazy, man.'” Translation: "If I was as inconsistent a golfer as you and as sadly out of shape I might as well drink myself silly too." I remember when Daly won his first major. His gigantic backswing was the biggest story. Really he is nothing special in my opinion, but I do like him. Quote
Super User gim Posted August 28, 2022 Super User Posted August 28, 2022 He actually has a line of golf apparel called Loudmouth Golf. I don’t know how successful it is though. He’s a character for sure. His drinking, gambling, and women habits got him into some trouble. He’s living proof that you do not need to be in great shape or be an Olympic athlete to be good at golf. 1 Quote
schplurg Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Funny though that after Tiger hit the scene all the other golfers started to workout. They all started driving farther, like Tiger. He brought fitness to the sport. Tiger Woods is arguably (certainly one of) the best golfers that has ever played, and was the most fit golfer I can remember ever seeing at that time. Maybe if Daly wasn't such a fatso and drunk he'd have done better too. Quote
KP Duty Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 'Arkansas mineral water' he says as he chugs from a handle of vodka. That is pretty hard core. Quote

Super User gim Posted August 30, 2022 Super User Posted August 30, 2022 Didn't he have some spat with the PGA about using a cart too? The PGA required all their players to walk the courses during events and he wanted to take a cart. I think he ended up getting a medical exemption or something to take a cart instead. I'd like to see some of these players lug around their ginormous bags during a round. Then we'll how many shots under par they can score... Quote
