SproDD79 Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Looks like Six Gill is coming out with a new reel (Arrival) anyone have any insight or experience with their reels. I would be interested in the 5:5:1 lefty for cranking, if it's comfortable to palm while fishing. https://sixgillfishing.com/arrival-series-casting-reel/ Quote
Eric 26 Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 I have no insight to offer on their products but I was looking also and I believe they’re offering 40% off for a limited time, through the weekend I believe. Then it drops to 30% and so on. Quote

Aaron_H Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 I don't know anything about Sixgill other than the constant BOGO they have going on. Looking at the fit and finish in the pictures, I assumed this was a budget reel they were releasing. Color me shocked when I saw the price was nearly $300.... Quote

I thought the same thing when I saw the price, and looking at the pictures of it , it reminds me of a Quantam frame reel. I am interested to see what the discount will be black Friday or cyber Monday. The only reason I'm interested is the 5:5:1 left, the lower gear ratio leftys are hard to come by. Quote

Not sure if you’re anti Abu Garcia but I have a Revo X winch in 5.4:1 gear ratio for the same reason, left hand retrieve. I really enjoy it and find it extremely comfortable. They are being discontinued but are hard to find in the left handed model although I just checked Tackle Warehouse and they still show them in stock at 5+. If I were in the market for another low gear reel I would purchase another one without hesitation. The thing that drives me nuts is the close out price is the same as when I bought mine a few years ago. 1 Quote

Thanks for the info, I'm not the biggest fan of Abu, I had the gen 3 winch and had to get the bearings replaced within 2 months of use,but that was like 5 years ago. From my recollection the reel was also a bit wide for my hand grip. On the TW I Cast videos, Mike Iconelli was talking about a new winch that looks the be a smaller frame, I definitely want to check that one out. If TW drops the revo X price a little more I may just pick one up because lower gear ratio leftys are hard to come by. Thanks. 1 Quote
Eric 26 Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 I’m with you on lefty low gear ratio reels being hard to find. I purchased a Kastking reel for the purpose of seeing how much I wanted/needed/enjoyed having 2 low gear reels. My plan was to sell the Kastking and purchase another Revo X but I’m not fishing as much as I’d like right now so I’m making both work. Quote
Blaine Donders Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 I’ve used the Hammar, which has a frame very close to the Arrival in shape. What makes the Arrival different is that they are making them in Texas. The other thing that their upper end reels share is a pretty cool mag brake setup. They do cast really nice. My brother has several of their reels, including an Arrival, and he likes them. People either are totally in love with them or meh. The finish on the new reel is Ceracote. If they are doing it right, it will be way more durable than the paint being used by the big OEMs. 1 Quote
Tatulatard Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 The $289 plastic reel is molded in the USA in Texas. Quote
Jdegonge Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 I received my Arrival reel recently - everyone is raving about it so I’m wondering what I’m missing? It looks fine but It seems sort of cheap and it’s loud. - so far it does not stack up to any of my Diawas or Shimanos I’m fit finish or smoothness / castability - am I missing something? 1 Quote

Key phrases are "casts a mile" or "super smooth". Vague undefined terms that can be thrown around without fear of being called out and can be defined to whatever the person wants them to suit any argument. Ie: "you don't think 40 yards is a long cast?" Or "What do you mean its not smooth it doesn't lock up" *posts pic of a fish caught as counter argument to claims of the reel not being smooth* We saw this alot with the kastking shills. Quote
