Your fishing a spot and not getting any bites so you move to a new location maybe not far; while moving you change the color of the bait your using (say plastic worm).  New spot and now your getting bites, is that because you moved or because you changed color of your bait?

Think it's an interesting question

Could be either but likely its the location. You would need to stay in the first spot & change colors to see if color maters.

Perfect example why one shouldn't change multiple variables. Now one will just confirmation bias make up a fairy tale as to what caused the bites.

It’s probably the new location but I would buy a couple of more packs of worms in the new color just in case.  ?

I only fish black or junebug worms so in my case it would definitely be location.

When you were at the initial spot did you change any colors there? Did you change up bait styles there? I assume not. Fish were probably there. The color bait you were throwing they most likely were not interested in.

Your second spot you chose a color they reacted to. So I’d say color as long as I felt there were fish on the first spot and only going at them with a single bait you chose and they were not interested in.

I usually change to all the colors I think that might work before  moving. So for me it would location, now with that being said. If I do try a new color and start catching a lot, I’d probably go back and fish that area again.

Those are easily two of my favorites, but have tried stuff in Black Grape.....it's like a perfect combo of the two minus the usual flakes in Junebug offerings

The fact is you will never know for sure   If you had tried the new color in the first spot and got bit then you would know but once you left there is no way of knowing   A few fish could have migrated in  after you left and might have bit either color or both

Doesn't matter how many times you change colors at a bad location, if there's no fish the bait won't make a difference. Put the wrong bait in a location with a lot of fish and there's still a good chance one might eat it.

Agreed...no way to get to the bottom of it changing multiple variables simultaneously. Sure you could attribute the success to something.. But its just speculation.

I would rather have the wrong lure/color in the right location than the right lure in the wrong location.

Just like with property values in realty - "Location, Location, Location."

Like wearing your best shirt to a bar where there were no women and not having any luck, then changing shirts and going to a different bar where there were a lot of women and you had good luck. Was it the shirt or location?

If it was a drastic change like red to greenpumpkin or white to red I'd say possibly color. If you went from straight greenpumpkin to greenpumpkin with red flake I'd say definitely Location.

If it was the drastic change in color I'd probably go back and fish that first spot after letting it rest a little.

Simple the process of elimination. Throw everything you have and if no bites move. Then start the same process at a new location.

If I live to be 200 years old, I wont have enough time to throw everything I have.  It might be beneficial for me to try a new location sooner than that.

In fisherman has a 3 step model that I find to be pretty helpful.

First is know the intended fish species and their tendencies.

Second is location based on #1

Third is presentation based on # 1 & 2

Color isn't even mentioned until you handle the other three.  For me i don't change colors unless I am getting some type of action but the fish seem non-committal.

my feeling exactly. you can fish the best bait in the  world even live bait, if your not fishing it where the fish are your wasting your time. its  like guys who use deer lure where theres not a deer within a half mile. if they dont kill a deer the scent doesnt work. location trumps all.
