just filled my truck up with fuel.  (gas is down to $5.05 here)

i am headed to my furthest lake Tomorrow.  Boss sanctioned a hookie day.  it is way out there and the final 45 minutes of my drive is a fire-road.  some hardcore guys will drag their bass boats up when weather is good.  bad weather, 4x4 is mandatory.  i cant imagine washing a boat after that tow.  nevertheless the boat traffic is very minimal.

anyways, last time i was there, i got one single fish (+ a few pike minnow).  this was one month ago.  i know where the Hyacinth is growing thick in about 8 -10 feet of water.  i think i am going to try punching the depths with a big weighted presentation.  there has to be a void underneath hiding bass.

i havent been skunked since January 2021.  hahah..i am strangely nervous.  i cannot convince any friends to go with me to spread out the attempts to pattern the fish.

my friends hate long shots.  i think i learn from long shots.

There is nothing more satisfying than finally putting it all together on a lake that you’ve always struggled at!

I love days like those. Everything is rigged and loaded the night before. Truck is fueled and cleaned. Excitement is high.

The 4am alarm comes and it’s like Christmas morning as a kid. Fresh pot of coffee in the traveler mug, Hank Williams on the playlist, the drive out is peaceful. Not many cars on the road and before you know it your at your happy place.

In fact, it’s days like those that get me through the week!

Enjoy my friend!

Discovering new water doesn’t happen often. Remote lakes off the beaten road are exciting and anticipation runs high...cherish it!

Yep a cup of coffee, a egg & cheese biscuit, and knowing you’ll be on the water….. it’s all good.

Even if ya get skunked you’ll still have a better day than your friends who didn’t want to come.

But you won’t get skunked, your Darth Baiter!

May the fish force be with you.

let us know how ya do.

And pics too.

I’ve seen guys break trailer axles on washboards going too fast

or going down roads that were barely trails
my Ram 1500 Hemi 4x4 loves that road but I wouldn’t tow a boat on it

WHOA!!  not how I thought it would play out.

I started on the road at 3:30.  coffee.  breakfast in a a food thermos for later.  I went up that road in pitch dark.  it was awesome.  I got there and saw the most horrific thing EVER.  they closed the boat ramp!!!  I walked to the end of the boat ramp and it was pure mud.  but then the MOST awesome thing happened.  about 25 screaming bull elk came out of the forest and walked out onto the mud..SCREAMING and Bugling.  I had goosebumps.  I have an elk call but decided blowing it would be stupid.  I ate my breakfast surrounded by "the boys". it was so dark I couldn't see them, but could just make out their shadows and antlers.

I drove to another ramp.  IBID.  they must have done a big dam release because the water is so low!!

I hit the road and did the lake right by my house.

did "okay".  all in all, I wasn't mad.  burned time and fuel for nothing, but the elk encounter is not something I will forget anytime soon.  I will try to call a friend up there and see I don't understand.

Why you need a ramp if you have a kayak?

It’s really the mud patch where the lake was. I’d have to cross it to get to water. It’s a forested lake with steep sides.  It’s a process.

Gotta love it…. I Remember the first time I saw an elk… a lot bigger than I expected.

You did get to fish and looks like you some decent fish.

First time I saw an elk it was a cow. Sat there amazed for a few minutes looking at what was surely the world record whitetail doe by a hundred pounds at least.

All of the sudden the whole wood line began to move and a whole herd of elk walked out into a field, realized I wasn’t looking at a doe anymore ?.

Incredible animals.
