Power Pro IS a good line...but I've moved up a step to Sufix 832

PP is a 4-carrier braid - meaning 4 strands braided together

832 is an 8-carrier braid - with one of those being Goretex...it's smoother and resists abrasion better.

PP is one of the best of it's generation, but there are better options these days. $ for $, 832 is tough to beat.

I recently got a deal on Suffix 832 that made it a couple bucks cheaper than PowerPro. I can only think of one brand that is normally cheaper than PowerPro that I didn't have problems with, and that was KastKing. I don't know if it's still cheaper now.

To answer your question though, yeah, it's worth it for the problems you won't have with it that you will have with some other brands. It's pretty reliable and consistent. I don't care for the "Slick" (coated) PowerPro though. I had problems with it wanting to stick together on the spool - it didn't release smoothly.

Power Pro has the super slick 8 (8 carrier not 4) which I like better than 832 for certain situations. 832 is not as slick and I use It for my frog and punching setups so It saws through grass better.
Kind of a Ford vs Chevy argument. Bottom line OP, it’s good line.

^^ This from @Cbump ^^

It's on all my bait-casters, and even running bright yellow 10lb PowerPro on my spinning rods. Hard to beat.

It’s a great line, and priced very fairly.

I use it from 8lb to 50lb and in all sizes it works great.

I just made the switch to braid on my jig and texas rig reels. 65lb power pro to be exact. I absolutely love it. Used to use Pline Xbraid and had unusual break offs, etc. Not with Power Pro. Flipping and pitching around grass and timber are even more fun

Love the fact I can get it from my local

Walmart too!

Since in summer I have one day a week deep sea fishing, I use a lots of braid on my reels. I am thinking of price since I am using about 4500 yards on my combos per year.

I have a big news for you and everyone about braided lines.

J-Braid beat them all about quality(*I didnt try Suffix 832). J-Braid 8 Grand is slim slick strong line, Ive seen it first hand. Now I use the 30lb and 65lb, going to get 1500yards spool of  50lb soon. I highly recommend you to give it a try as well.

Is power pro really that good, or is it just another overpriced line?

Power pro 4 strand is outdated. I use Sufix 832. Power pro super slick is there most up to date line.

Original Power Pro is still decent line. Not as thin or supple as some of the newer lines but sometimes that's a good thing. I find I get less wind knots and less wrapping around the rod tips with it than the thinner lines like Daiwa J-braid.

Don't get me wrong, I really like J-braid but I feel Power Pro still has a time a place where it could be better. For instance, I use it to throw smaller spinnerbaits on spinning combos. Since its stiffer it doesn't wrap around the wires and blade as easily as J-braid. And it seems more abrasion resistant due to being a 4 carrier line so I dont always have to check my line or retie as often.
