I have five grandchildren, two boys, and three girls. I spend a good deal of time with them, whenever I can. In November, I'll become a great grandpa for the first time. My granddaughter Natalie, is having a baby girl.          She's 24, and her husband is very nervous about this, they're first child. I think it's great.              Becoming a grandparent is a great thing. It's one of those things that creeps up on you, and before you know it, you've got grandkids.                                          My fishing partner for several years was my oldest grandson Aiden. Now, Aiden is a junior in high school, and busy with a part time job, school, and a girlfriend. When he graduates high school, Aiden wants to join the Navy. He's not the young boy that went fishing with me so many times.      In his words" they need good people granpa, and it's a good thing to do, to serve your country". I agree with him. And, I'll miss that boy when he goes.                   Enjoy your grandchildren whenever you can. Time marches on.                    Do you have grandchildren?  Do you get to spend time with them?

Only one.   Often wants to fish...."Let's get some worms Grandpa".  We'd better get a bite in first ten minutes,  though....  ?

I got 5 grand babies from 28 to 12, with our first great grandson due Sept 4th! Unless he decides he wants to see his Great Papa earlier!!

Some of my best memories are sitting on a dock teaching and talking fishing.
Their, and my reaction when each boy caught their first fish is burned into my soul.

There is nothing like having grand kids!

Its just different than having your own.
I can give them what they want, when they want then send them home!

?

Whenever those kids came to visit and were old enough to understand English,

I made sure they understood Papa’s first rule..

”If it ain’t there, you can’t have it”

4, 4 boys, 0-17, 2 girls 10 & 12. Been taking 3 of the boys out this year as I got a 2 person bass raider just so I can. Going out with the 8 yo in the am., it's his 1st year so he needs some learning. The 2 older boys both got their 1st jobs this summer so the best I could do was going out before they started. One of them loves fishing, the other just likes being out on the boat on quiet ponds.

The only downside is I can only take 1 at a time. Maybe it's time to ask the girls.

This papa's first rule is "Papa wins. Papa always wins"

He's an alpha male and his dad is dead. Only male influence he has is myself and his mothers biological father. Saying the kid is a handful is an understatement. He's on full speed 24/7. I have him trained well. Papa might have to raise his voice a decibel or 2 but that's it. Kid runs all over momma and grandma. Sadly, they are too old for me to train.

Kid is smart. He knows I'm not blood. He told me so when I removed him from the restaurant on his birthday for misbehaving. "You're not my real family!!!" The following Monday I went to his soccer practice as I always do. He ran up and gave me a hug and a kiss. After practice I said goodbye. As he was walking away, he turned around and said "Wait a minute. Aren't we mad at each other?" I told him "you might be mad at me but I'm not mad at you". He said "OK". End of story.

I may have mentioned this before, maybe not. I scolded his mother for getting knocked up one evening when she, grandma and I were out to dinner, when she was pregnant. Dad was a piece of crap, and neither one of them was in any position to raise a kid. I was so angry at the situation, I actually told her I could never love her child. Well, things have changed. If Eric, momma, grandma, and I were being attacked by a pack of lions, the women are getting sacrificed. If the 4 of us were on a small plane and we had to lose weight or crash, momma and grandma will be making a quick exit. Eric is my favorite human being and the one thing in life I wish I could take back is, thinking, let alone saying, I couldn't love him. He didn't ask to be brought into this world. He's here and I'll be damned if I let him turn out like his loser father.

2 boys and 1 gal. Gabby is my oldest granddaughter, and smart as a whip, she is in the process of getting her Masters degree. Very motivated and works for her $$ while going to school. The eldest grandson is 20, and nothing like his sister, he works for UPS, only cuz his Dad is upper management there. The youngest in 14, hopefully my Son's work ethic and dedication to family rubs off on the young un. And yep, I'm pretty dang proud of them.

Took #5 out a couple weeks ago, he got skunked while I caught a bunch. A couple days later his dad took him, both skunked. Took him out again earlier this week but this time I bought live worms which I haven't used since I was a kid. He got 16 bluegill, his count, and a smallie, and I spent the day baiting his hook, removing the bluegills, and untangling his line. Much better day.
