Another interesting ramp photo

You see a lot of strange things at boat ramps.  @Munkin posted an interesting photo last Friday and challenged us to explain it.   I took this photo yesterday and I got an explanation of what was going on.   I’m posting it to see if anyone can figure it out.  I'll reveal the answer later.

It's actually a spawning box for those huge river catfish that live in the river.

Somebody stole a shipping container full of toilet paper then they realized it was single ply.

Freighters are limited capacity right now so they are trying a new method to move containers…

The real story is less interesting than the post on the thread.

 

I had just parked the truck and was leaving the dock when the truck launched the container.  The guy in the pontoon boat said they were installing a new "wave wall".   The container eventually leveled off with about 60% of it submerged and the pontoon boat started towing it away from the ramp.   That's when I left to go fishing.   When I came back about 5 hours later,  there was a new wall in front of a fueling dock about 300 yards from the ramp.  The container, pontoon boat,  and truck were gone.

Interesting.  I guess that's a quick way to get an 8' x40' double wall of metal.  The containers aren't cheap though.

The container did not become the wall.  I assume it contained the material used to construct the wall.  I didn't look closely at the new wall but I assume it's some kind of floating barrier to break the waves.

hmm.  I'd be surprised if they could get the container back onto the trailer without a crane.  They are about 8000 lb empty and solid steel.  Once it was full of water it was going to the bottom.  I'd think they floated it into place and sank it to the bottom as the wall, then put some floating buoys on top to break up the surface and mark it.

 

How deep is the water where the refueling dock is?

I'll check it out more closely the next time I'm there.   It's about 10ft deep but drops quickly.
