Super User Jigfishn10 Posted August 24, 2022 Super User Posted August 24, 2022 A lot of good advice here. One thing that one really needs to understand about nutrition is that it's not a one size fits all approach. What works for one person doesn't work for the other. Pick a protocol that works for you and your lifestyle and stick with it. There's no exact science on nutrition. WTG BigAngus752. 3 1 Quote

You didn't like keto? Most people don't. Don't worry about it and don't work so darn hard at this. It's NOT that hard. I'm 53 years old and I'm currently at 8% bodyfat via the 3 site caliper test. IGNORE THE BODY MASS INDEX (BMI), according to that I am obese. I'm not joking. 1. Stop with the macros. Get your calories right. There are many reliable calorie calculators on the internet. You have to be honest with the questions they ask. 2. Keep track of your calories. You do not know how much you are eating and you cannot judge a portion size without years and years of measuring, weighing, etc. No, you can't, you're wrong. Get the free version of My Fitness Pal and use it for every single thing you eat. Before you know it, you won't need it anymore. That's it. No other advice needed. Figure out the right amount of calories. Learn to keep track of your calories. Done. Don't workout if you don't want to. You won't look exactly like I do but you will certainly have a healthy body weight. Don't count your macros if you don't want to. It would speed things up to get .7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight and cut down on refined sugar, but you don't have to. Get your calories right and keep strict track of what you take in and your life will change. Adding one more thing: Don't worry about "crappy food". You can choose to eat what you want and still lose weight/maintain healthy weight. Specific foods are bad for you only if you have a medical condition or a genetic predisposition to some bad things. Do a Google search of The Twinkie Diet. DUUUDE.!! hey, i have a jar of pickles with a really tight lid i cant open...you mind? badass dude...really impressive. 1 Quote

KP Duty Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 I don't eat enough veggies/fruits, so I drink them. You've probably seen the 'balance of nature' commercials. It is expensive because they put it in a capsule. Just mix a scoop of superfood in a small glass of water or your protein shake twice a day...you'll feel the difference! https://www.herbspro.com/products/super-greens-drink-mix-natural-180605?variant=33079484842084¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=CjwKCAjw3qGYBhBSEiwAcnTRLsE-1XRGvhZ9rUX1vVhB3m1UG8uKjz6marF2CkYrlipAMt1bs3m9CxoCwdsQAvD_BwE Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 I quit drinking soda/pop/caffeine when in high school. Made a big difference. About five years ago my wife had some serious gut / digestive issues, and spent a week in the hospital. Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. She went gluten and dairy free... I stopped eating gluten, partially to support her, partially because there wasn't any around the house...but more importantly, it made me feel better! No more irritable bowl, loose stools, feeling bloaty, etc. Dairy is still a "go-to" for me, especially when I'm stressed. When I cut dairy out of my diet for a few days, I do feel much better. One big change I made recently was to eliminate all vegetable oils. And that stuff is in just about everything! Again, I feel much better. Side note, have been dropping pounds as well! So I basically eat the following: meat, vegetables both raw and cooked, fruits, nuts, and some dairy. Nothing processed, no breads, pasta, etc., no chips, protein bars, very little alcohol (again, makes me feel like crap). I do like me some sausage, polka kielbasa, jimmy dean hot breakfast sausage, deer sticks, stuff like that. Again, doesn't make me feel great...but I'll take the bullet now and then. 3 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted August 28, 2022 Super User Posted August 28, 2022 K.I.S.S. Everything in moderation and move more. If I want a cheeseburger I am going to have it. If I eat more than a moderate amount of calories I add some exercise to my day to burn some of those extra calories. Portion control helps. A cheeseburger and fries meal from any of the usual chain restaurants (Applebees, Ninety-Nine, etc) can be cut in half and doggy bagged. That 2 meals. Most of the time I am full before I finish half and force myself to eat the rest. Most days I make sure to include some almonds and blueberries as a snack. Much better than a cookie. 1 Quote

schplurg Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 I remember going out to breakfast once and sitting on the patio eating. A guy from England sitting nearby commented more than once to his friend at how huge our portions are in the USA. I looked around and almost everyone was fat. How embarrassing. It is actually difficult sometimes to pick out the healthy food from the junk in this country. So much sugar is added to bread now, and salt. Especially the cheaper food. It should be illegal in some ca$e$. But it's right there on the label! It's all about the money. Some of our food is so bad it's outlawed in some countries. I got a cheesesteak sandwich once and it was almost 4000 MG of sodium, double the daily recommendation! One sandwich! Most people don't bother to check. "It's just a sandwich!" You need to be diligent when you buy food. There is garbage everywhere. Someone told me once, "This bread is enriched which means it's better!" No, it's the opposite! It was stripped of all nutrients during manufacturing and had to be added back in! That is not a good way to make bread. The average American is not going to work off that 750 calorie cheeseburger, let alone the fries and the sugary drink. That's also part of it...laziness, both in physical workouts AND in food purchasing and preparation. It's your body maybe make it more of a priority. We all know the starting lineup of our favorite teams, but do we know how many calories we eat each day? Do we realize how much poison we put into our bodies while we pay extra for the "good gas" in our trucks? My Gramma used to tell me to finish my food so I could be in the Clean Plate Club. Great way to make people fat, Gramma! It isn't just about being fat either. Hypertension/sodium is a big killer here. You wanna lose wight quickly? Go vegan or plant based. I know zero overweight vegans. Underweight, maybe. 1 Quote

Last year burger king had a promotion for their veggie burger whopper. It tasted terrible and i couldnt finish it. I dont think they sell it anymore in minn and dakota? Wife and i have been eating alot of veggies from our garden this past 3 weeks, its included as a side dish with our regular meals. What i have noticed from this is my weight has dropped and my bowell movments have been larger. The eggplant does a good clensing job and i cheat by eating it breaded and fried with a slice of cheese on it. Quote

So let’s not blame her for eating plenty and using sodium haha 1 Quote

In Italy or France sure, but England, Germany and many other countries are catching us. Not as many morbidly obese but plenty of fluffy folks. I am there at least 3* a year and it is rapidly getting worse. 1 Quote
