Bass Rutten Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 Just got an email from St. Croix about a new mid priced avid panfish series, hallelujah! Same price point and blank material as the victories, always wanted a panfish series with better graphite than the scII and that elite at close $400 is a hard pill to swallow for panfish. https://stcroixrods.com/products/avid-series-panfish?utm_source=traditions&utm_medium=pr&utm_campaign=avid+panfish_pr&utm_id=avid+panfish_pr&utm_term=2022-08-01&mc_cid=43355308c3&mc_eid=033570e190 2 Quote
Eric 26 Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 Those are beautiful rods. I wish I had the money for them?. For now I’m going to have to stick with my bps panfish elite rods. Looking forward to hearing how well you like them if you grab one. 2 Quote

I've got 3 crappie rigs, one is Daiwa Procyon ($75) and the other two are Okuma Celilo ($50ea) 1 Quote

Ya - I got the 7' L/MF and the 7'6" UL/MF and they're both good in their stated ranges. I think all the Celilos are MF action...don't quote me on that...but man can they case light stuff far. With the UL, I've tossed a 1/32 jig with a 1" plastic a good 40-45yds...loaded up well...very 'springy'. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 23, 2022 Global Moderator Posted August 23, 2022 I already have an Avid 6' UL, but those look really nice too. 1 Quote
fishhugger Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 i can't conceive of a $400 rod --- but i'm new at this. i'm using a microlight by shakespeare, 7', little shimano spinning reel, i think 4# mono hi vis. that's my panfish setup. i cast a 1/16 oz spinner --- i'm guessing - about 70''? i'm guessing the rod is about like the okuma celilo, in terms of basic quality.... i'm dumb - what makes a $400 panfish rod worth it? other than fondling it, which, yeah, even as a newbie i'd be into that. 1 Quote

You could buy a a $2000 omega watch to keep track of time, or a $40 timex which achieves the same task but... the omega looks sleeker, feels nicer, is more durable, more accurate etc The way I see it what gives things worth is the value that you place upon it, not necessarily how much was paid for it, that makes an objects value subjective therefore only you can answer that question. Hope that doesn't come off as evasive or snarky. That said a panfish rod is not worth $400 to me as I fish for them only about 3 months of the year. 11 hours ago, Eric 26 said: Looking forward to hearing how well you like them if you grab one. I definitely plan to grab a few, would've like to seen a 6'9" light in this series. 1 Quote

Eric 26 Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 I’m going to take a good look at these myself, especially if bps does their usual trade in at the spring classic. These are a definite upgrade on my current rods. At right around the $200.00 mark that’s about as high as I’m willing to go for rods or reels, but after the trade in ? Quote
