More than a few of my top water walking baits (i.e. older Heddon One Knocker) have poor quality stock bronze treble hooks . What brand / series treble hooks do you prefer for your top water walking baits - especially if bass are slapping at your lures ?

I went and replaced the nearly new hooks on all my Spooks - from Puppy to Super - with Owner ST-41s.

Removing the hook braces used to be a thing...so the hooks could swing/move freely.  I don't fish spooks much anymore since leaving the Joplin bass club I fished in.

After further research - it appears the Owner Stinger ST-35/36 series and the Mustad KVD Elite Triple Grip treble hooks are very popular with hard bait bass fishermen.

For round bends on smaller to standard size baits I like the st-36.  The gamakatsu magic eyes are really good too and seem a touch beefier than the owner st's and are my choice for larger lures or if using heavier rods.

I'm a big fan of Mustad TrippleGrip and Megabass Katsuage Outbarb Treble Hooks, which are excellent for catching fish that are slapping at your offering.

On a spook I like the Gammy round bends as well. The owner's I like on crankbaits like the wart.

The Daiichi death trap is another good one.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the triple grips. Any fish that has it good is coming to the boat. But the turned in barb worries me for those who swat it or give it a half hearted effort.

Correction : For top water lures (especially larger ones) it appears here the round bend treble hooks get the nod to catch bass that slap at a top water . The inward angle hook points of the Mustad triple grip (or similar treble hooks) are better to keep bass better pinned on a crank bait once they have eaten the lure.

Round bend gamakatsu are my replacement hook of choice.  1x short with the magic eye.  Size depends on the lure, but a #4 is my starting point for most things.  I used 2's for some bigger stuff.  Rarely I'll replace with a 6.

the G-finesse are also very good hooks.  I ordered a pack accidentally when I was looking for round bends and got the wrong item.  They are much lighter physically (though I don't see a meaningful difference in stiffness) so take that into account when you're looking at topwaters and the attitude of the bait in the water.  I'm leaving the G-finesse for crankbaits.

Thanks ... I'll be trying the Owner ST-36 round bend and Gamakatsu Magic Eye round bends - mostly in #2 & #4 treble sizes . *Now I cn adress my top water lures that came with came with lower quality bronze treble hooks (Spooks , Sexy Dawg's , etc. )
