I had to get in on the pre-order for the new C6O2 blank. At 1.58 oz it could be an awesome Senko rod. I've been sitting on a Torzite guide set I scored on the auction site for $50.00. Add some CF grips and it will probably be the lightest rod I own.

What is the length, power , and action?  And model designation.  NFC describes power differently for different lines of their rods.  A medium power drop shot and a medium power spin jig will be nowhere close to each other in power.  It will be nice when they publish their CCS numbers.

What is C6O2?

C6 is the chemical formula for Carbon, and O2 is the chemical formula for Oxygen, a component of air. One of our initial testers of the blank provided in his feedback that holding this blank is like holding air – so the name “Carbon Air” stuck.

C6O2 is not just a name. Its a new fiber and a new technology that holds the fiber together.

Air Carbon is a combination of a pure carbon mesh that is so light, a puff of air sends it flying, (click on the product video to see!) combined with a fiber that is deemed “strategic” by our government and thus non-exportable and is provided by allocation to a select number of factories across ALL industries in the US. There is a benefit to being Gary Loomis and being in the composites industry for 50+ years – when a new material comes out, your name is on a “short list” of those to call to run some tests.

The result? Blanks that are 30% lighter than our X-Ray and 50% stronger.

For those looking for more stats:

Blank Length: 7'2"

Blank Weight: 45 grams /1.58 oz

Butt Diameter: 0.53

Tip: 4.5

ERN: 21

Line: 8-14lb

Lure: 3/16-3/4

Finish: Matte, Slightly Ridged

THIS BLANK IS ON PRE-ORDER, THE PRICE ($150) WILL BE THE LOWEST PRICE THAT THIS BLANK WILL EVER BE AVAILABLE AT. DUE TO FIBER ALLOCATION/SUPPLY AFTER THE INITIAL PRE-ORDER, THEY WILL NEVER BE ON SALE.  AN AUTHENTICITY CERTIFICATE SIGNED BY GARY LOOMIS WILL BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR ORDER, ONE PER BLANK.

PLEASE ALLOW ABOUT 45 DAYS FOR DELIVERY

ERN 21 , good info.  That is just a little higher than the ML Point Blank 701MLF.  I don't think you'll like 3/4 lures on it  but it should work just fine for lighter stuff, especially finesse.   Sounds like the only thing missing is "soulful."  Sorry, sarcasm alert.  Doesn't give action info, but being that light it should work for a lot of stuff.

I personally don't like the ridges on NFC, makes wrapping more challenging, tough to move nail knot trim rings.  I received a "mirror finish" and it still had ridges.

The NFC carbon fiber grips are very nice.  You will love them.

Later post said they were going to start making their most popular models first with this material, guess this model fits that bill. They just came out with the second blank in this material, a surf rod blank.

Just a quick update. Been 4 months since I placed the order. From experience we all know that NFC is slow to ship. I have been told many times "Yours was an early order so it should ship next week". Now today "The blanks are very fragile and we can only make 9 a day with our mandrels. Gary inspects each one and divides them between NFC orders and Edge Rod orders." I don't think there is much "dividing" going on. Maybe I'll get it in time to finish it before Spring...

I missed this thread the first time through.  That blank sounds like a great  lighter swim jig or lipless crankbait blank in the vein of the falcon 7’2” swim jig rod. Light and fast tip but decent backbone. Looking forward to hearing how it is.

Tackle Tour looked at this blank design twice, once as the MB705-1 (HM) and new blank built up by them. Info is right in their rod review archives. It's NFC building the Loomis MB 843. Everyone should have known it would be a while on these blanks, they out and out said so day one, they didn't hide the fact that the material was in short supply and hard to get.

Spoonplugger, please tell me what is magic about this Loomis MB843 blank, it's CCS numbers and its material specs.   It sounds like there until the new NFC blank there has been nothing to compare it with.  thanks,

And I just noticed the info is already in the thread... disregard my sleep addled attempt at usefulness today.

Never said the MBR 843 C was magical, but in some parts of the country the MBR783 and 843 are well known due to their longevity and used by many as a "standard" to measure the power and value of other blank designs and rods. Frankly I have always preferred the MBR 783 C.

What's the difference between 783 and 783 c? And what makes an MB an MB vs some other rod with the same power/action designations?

And I feel like @MickD is right mentioning the magic of the MBR843 @spoonplugger1 - I feel like its touted on youtube vids and discussions as some sort of "magic" rod - but I haven't quite gathered the difference between it and some other 7ft medium heavy fast rod.

The issue here is that the subjective power and action descriptions are very unreliable and even blanks within the same manufacturers' selection that are called the same power and action are not in fact the same.

Some of this is because they are pointed towards different techniques.  For example, I received a "medium" power "drop shot" blank with a measured CCS ERN of 13.  That is well below the "medium" power CCS ERN of 19 for one of their crank bait blanks.

I often receive surprises in the blanks I buy.  I just build them for what they work best at and use them for that or give them to charity or kids if I don't need them.  But I test them all and learn at least something from them.

Unless the maker specifies CCS values you have no way of knowing what you are going to get.  Kudus for AnglersResource for specifying CCS on their Point Blanks and Rainshadow for doing it on their RX10's.

For the guys getting those new fancy blanks, the blanks will come without the certificate and the certificate will be sent separately so it won't be bent or damaged in the tube.

Go it mine in today.   I plan on pairing one with an Aldebaran 31 Mgl (4.76 oz) and one with a Lew’s Custom Lite SLP (4.9 oz reel).

Very limited testing so far, but I like the initial bend/feel.

Unfortunate news - Avery good friend and an excellent rod builder got his blank before me. He was on Lake Fork this weekend, admittedly got hung up and broke it in half trying to get it loose. High sticking was not the issue - just some repeated upward snaps to try to get the bait loose. As has been said on this thread, they are very light and very sensitive - but they are also very brittle.

Now he has to try and salvage the AT CF grips and the AT CCT reel seat.

Sacrificing a high end rod and the labor for the sake of a lure, I've seen IM6, IMX, GL3, IM700, Certified Pro, SC III, SC IV, etc. blown up doing the same thing. That's what they make lure retrievers for. I sacrifice lures before rods.

Most certainly agree!

Maybe not as "strong" as advertised.

Strong is power, stiffness to weight ratio, not durability. That said, when RodMaker Magazine wrote their article on rod breakage and how to tell how it happened, that you can read on the NFC site, they had to go to extraordinary measures to get some of the NFC donated blanks in HM and IM to fail.
