Tackleholic Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Is there a certain tool or method to bend frog hooks upward or outward? Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 18, 2022 Super User Posted August 18, 2022 Why would you want to...a frog is pretty much weedless, a necessary thing when running it over the slop...and good soft-bodied one doesn't interfere with hook-set. Quote
Jaderose Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Yeah...don't. All it will do is make them more prone to picking up weeds and gunk. I've never seen it make a difference in hook-up ratio. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted August 18, 2022 Super User Posted August 18, 2022 I agree with @MN Fisher & @Jaderose. If you don't like the hook spread or configuration buy a different frog that suits you fancy. Quote
813basstard Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Fortunately for you there is! Invented right after fire and before the fork, roughly 2347 BC they’re called pliers. 2 2 1 Quote

Now as to the why, for me 2 reasons; - To maximize hook point exposure vs weedlessness. In really heavy slop, they get flushed against the plastic, in lighter cover or pads they get bent up slightly off the body. - To offset the points so they are not symmetrically identical to each other in the same plane. Super User Jar11591 Posted August 18, 2022 Super User Posted August 18, 2022 If we’re you, instead of bending the hooks out, I’d make the body of the frog softer and more collapsible by squeezing it in your hand for 20 minutes or so. I do this with all my frogs. Just work the plastic with your hands, and it becomes more collapsible and will improve your hook up ration while maintaining the weedlessness of the frog. Quote
Big Rick Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Or, buy some of these: Scum Frog Launch Frog. The hooks already stick up and the body is very soft. 1 Quote
schplurg Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Just catch a huge fish and they'll bend. Quote
