0351 Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 I just picked up a dedicated pitching reel, the Daiwa Steez ct sv tw 70. Im now looking for the sweet rod to pair it with for a dedicated pitching rig. Can I get some suggestions? thanks all Quote

Super User FishTank Posted August 19, 2022 Super User Posted August 19, 2022 I have the Steez CT and to me it's more of a finesse reel. The drag is good but light and it has a slow start up. Also the handle is small. Not what I would be looking for in a pitching reel. I have mine paired with a G Loomis NRX+ 802C. I use it mainly for light shakey head (1/16 oz jig head and a roboworm). 4 Quote
KP Duty Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 I feel that any top of the line rod will perform well. It's really a personal decision based on things like handle type, reel seat, guide train, rod weight, and even looks. USDM....I like the NRX's. JDM...I like the Shimano's (poison glorious/ultima). 1 Quote

I can truly trow BFS lures with the reel. I would not use it for pitching activities where true hauling power is needed. 1 Quote
QED Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 I'm currently using my CT SV TW 70 XH with a Saint Croix XFC68MXF and the combo is pretty enjoyable to fish with. The Shimano Poison Adrena/Glorious/Ultima rods are a bit lighter though, if that is an important factor for you. 1 Quote
0351 Posted August 19, 2022 Author Posted August 19, 2022 thanks all, the baits I want it for are stick baits and smaller texas rigged craws, not jigs, and I wont be throwing in to real heavy cover, mainly grass I do have a custom heavier jig rod paired with a bantam for jigs in the heavier stuff 1 Quote
0351 Posted August 19, 2022 Author Posted August 19, 2022 P.S. If I bought the wrong reel for what I want to do let me know and I will sell it and get something else thanks all Quote
Tatulatard Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Doesn't this reel have the same gears and drag as the jdm zillion 1000? I know its a small reel but I think it can handle pitching duties fine. 1 Quote
0351 Posted August 19, 2022 Author Posted August 19, 2022 I sized it up against my Metanium mgl and the handles are the same size… Quote

Even then a handle is easily changed. I wouldn't let knobs or a handle stop me from buying a reel. 1 Quote

For me though, a 1/2 oz is pushing it with this reel so that would be my limit. For a rod, a 3 power NRX+. Depending on how fast you like the tip, the 843c and the 803c come to mind. Another that I like and I have it paired with a Steez SV, the St. Croix Legend Elite 6'8'' M Fast. It's not as sensitive as the NRX but works great for Texas Rigged soft plastic and bridges the gap between a Loomis's 2 and 3 power rods. I have caught tons of fish with this setup. 1 Quote

papajoe222 Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Whatever rod you decide on, try your best to get ahold of one to mount the reel on. An awesome rod that doesn't balance well with the reel paired to it can be a wrist killer, especially if you'll be pitching a lot during the day. 2 Quote
ErieCan Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Why not the Steez AGS flipping rod? I have the the 7'5" Bottom Contact II and it's an awesome rod. 1 Quote

The Steez power pitch is a fantastic rod. Might be my favorite overall, definitely my fave 1/2oz and up jig rod. Though I'm enjoying it most with a heavier reel, currently a bantam though a jdm zillion hd keeps calling me. scott 2 Quote
