Obviously, no bueno for braid, but it's not going to fair well with nylon either. That Daiwa rod/reel combo is a very good value if you absolutely cannot afford to bump up to a better rod and/or reel. You would be hard pressed to find a brand new combo for $115 that's even close to that value. Just do general reel maintenance, don't try to horse a snagged cinder block out of the water, and it will last some years. Carbonlite and above all have Fuji guides and a 10 year warranty. Quote
txchaser Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 My recommendation is above your budget, but it is for good reason. The poster above that mentioned buying fewer lures and upgrading your rod/reel instead is spot on - a better reel really will be more forgiving, and you are going to have it a long time. I still have my orginal fuego reel as a backup for frogging. Stuff's on sale everywhere right now because of overstocks. Probably even better at labor day. Tatula XT for $70 is a smokin deal as it's usually $100. If you can find a fuego on sale it should be around $70 too. A lot of good air-d feedback on bassresource, so I'd expect the XT to fish well too. And the fuego is one of the best deals in the market especially for a beginner because it is pretty forgiving. Also, check the flea market here - some great deals, and as long as it isnt from a numbskull on craigslist, I don't see much difference between used and new. Actually now that I think about it I'll sell you my RH fuego for $50 if you want it, I have too many backup reels. Can't ship till next week though. PM me if you want it. 1 Quote

These things will quit working without maintenance. How soon depends on how much you use it, but they can wear out faster than you might think. Download the schematics and watch some videos. Spend a few bucks on some good oil and grease made for reels. It's a good idea to take it apart while it's still under the 30 day warranty, in case you screw it up your first time. Quote
