What are some lures and baits you guys like in the summer? I have no experience with bass and have no idea what lures to use right now. I currently have some senkos and trick worms and know how to use a good amount of lures. But not when. Thanks! -Devon

Poppers, weedless frogs, Texas-rigged 7”-10” ribbon tail worms and spinnerbaits are my top producers in the summer.

Get yourself a couple spinnerbaits, the Strike King in a 1/2 oz, grab the Spot remover, it's a good pattern for local waters.

I choose lures based on what I'm fishing . Rocks , weeds , flats , bluffs , points , wood....       What are you fishing ?

Watch Glenn’s video’s as he is in your area.

Soft plastics of various types are good.

The top water bite died when it got hot here.  The bass have not wanted to come out of the vegetation after moving baits.  I have been using plastic worms, Yum Dingers, and Texas rigs pitched right at the edge of the vegetation.

Topwaters, frogs, toads, bozzbaits, spinnerbait, stick worms, and, as with every season, jigs. If I can't buy a bite, I'll rig up a light Carolina rig and dust off the deep diving cranks.

I usually go before sunrise and start out with a couple or a few topwaters tied on. Once the sun gets up I will change one to a lipless crank and maybe another to a spinnerbait.

Can't think of a bait I wouldn't throw in summer really.

What he said. If the right set of situations/conditions presents themselves, anything can work from a blade bait to an airborne frog.

As many have said, it's really hard to know without understanding the type of water your fishing.

Some waters, certain topwaters may never work regardless if the weather conditions set up for it. Might smash a certain wake bait at mudhole down the street and the bass in another water might never get fooled by the same bait regardless of how the fish setup, what they're feeding on, water clarity, structure, weather and other conditions. With all the social media today, even a young child can learn various techniques and conditions to start having fun catching bass fairly quickly. Also, go on Fishbrain and see what the kids are catching them on in your local waters. My apologies if I sound like an old curmudgeon. Good luck, everybody has potentially great suggestions, have fun experimenting and hope all is good!

The only lure that I use in the summer and rarely use the rest of the year is a hollow body frog. Mainly because when the water is warm on hot days, fishing it over lily pads is quite productive.

My most productive lure in the summer? This year, it was a drop shot. Last year I had a handful of lures fighting for the top spot, if I remember right it was a spinnerbait, T-Rig, jig, tube and drop shot and I'm not sure which one one out.

In general, I like fast moving baits in the summer. Spinner/buzzbaits, cranks and topwaters like the WP and Torpedo.  The other side of my coin is slow, bottom baits and a Jig/trailer is #1.

Ditto

I think there are more than enough threads on here that dissect every bait made that can keep someone busy till rapture!

OP

More times than not it really doesn’t matter much. I’ve been fishing for bass a very long time and by my standard have achieved some success.
But not once have I said to myself I can’t use a certain bait because it’s too hot outside to use.

However, I will chose one bait over another based solely on where I use it.

Hmm...

I think a lot of lures and techniques are seasonal. A few examples are lipless cranks,

square bills, most topwater, jerkbaits and the Alabama Rig. The Rig stands out perhaps

the most. I have no idea why it doesn't produce in the summer, but it doesn't for me

or anyone I know.

Lipless, best in spring and fall.

Square bills in late spring/ early summer.

Topwater in warmer months.

In the summer "moving lures" are a distant second to soft plastics and jigs.

Frogs? Almost exclusively summer and heavy cover.
