Hi,

Was keen to hear feedback from anyone who has swum/seen swum the Roman Made Like Bite. I was most interested in the 105mm, but other lengths are fine too.

Does it walk the dog easily? Cast well? etc. Since they stopped making the wooden lucky craft sammy there aren't many wooden walk the dog options on the market. Open to recommendations.

Cheers!

That's some good options there, for sure. Except none of them are made of wood as far as I can tell, which is what the OP is looking for; a walking bait made out of wood...

I never knew there ever was a Sammy made of wood.

Use to be some really nice ones from a company called Bass Craft if you can find any of those. They went out of business I guess so it will have to be from the auction sites or just get lucky to find one.

I have an old Zara Spook that has Zell Rowland’s name on the side that I think is wood.  You might be able to find some on eBay.

As far as I can tell they were only available for a short time, released in 2019. There is one listed on the Bay currently for $54 USD + 20 postage. If it was a more sane price i'd consider grabbing it.

I'm definitely aware of the heddon super spook which is wood, and have considered that one. Most interested in anything around ~100mm, specifically wood (so that its mostly silent) and with a bit of weight to cast.

I have already pulled the trigger on the roman made like bite, which I caught for $30 USD best offer on ebay. Was just eager to hear what it's like. There's a promotional video on youtube, but it's a bit hard to tell what it's like as a conventional walking bait. They seem to be fishing it with some different erratic retrieves.

I have been trying to get my hands on one of these, but the 200+ USD price tag is a little tough to swallow

Check some of the balsa and custom bait makers. I know PH Customs makes walking baits in the PH line and the Old School line. I'm sure many of the others do as well. They are probably going to mostly be in the 4"-4.5" range.

The original wooden Sammy is a balsa lure and never found any other walk lure as lively and effective.

The wooden Sammy jumps side to side with little forward motion, still have mine.
