1,000 yd range. Nice!

Very nice rifle sir, and 1000 indeed for a tactical bolt like that.   Once I started shooting my LMT MWS at 1000yd range, it became pretty pointless to take it out to a typical 100 or even 600 yd range.   People out west don't realize how hard it is to find 1000yd ranges in the east.

Two things I absolutely love to do alone.....fish and shoot.   If I had more fishing or shooting buddies that would obviously change, but once you become an adult it's hard to keep and maintain hobby pals

The biggest issue I see in all this is you saying you've only had a few days off in 2+ months...that's ridiculous. Now for the question at hand have I ever felt unmotivated to go? Yes but only after I've been going alot...never after its been a while

Koz you aren't missing alot in our area right now. Rest your body and mind and be ready for Fall. I've been twice in the last week for a total of 5 fish. Here's this morning's sunrise for ya.

Thankfully I fish for 20 minutes on the way to work and it helps me recharge and deal with some of the crap at work.

I would usually find time to go fish our docks for 15-20 minutes mid afternoon or after work, but lately between being busy or it being blazing hot out I have not ben out there much. Not only that, but also the fact that the bass have moved out of our shallow cove for most of the day during the summer.

During the spring and summer we usually have our Fishing with the GM program 2-3 times a month, but because we have been short staffed we only did it 3 times this year. We also had only 2 S'Mores nights, and we usually do that every weekend.

Yeah - the bass fishing has still not come back on Oconee. But the Georgia Power project manager guys that are working on the project to install aerators have been in my hotel a lot this summer. Hopefully that brings the lake back over the next year.

I don't think so. I might be tired, but I still go. You never know. It could be the day the biggest bass of your lifetime decides to strike. I want to be there- and be ready fo her.

I want to fish about as bad a junkie wants a hit. I’ve been called a smallmouth junkie as a matter of fact. I’d spend my bottom dollar to get out there on the water. I don’t like being on dry land!

Don't have regrets.

Don't know your situation. I sold my boat last year and bought an "in between" boat. Originally had some regrets but no more. I spend more time shore fishing with my grandson now, than boat fishing. My motivation has changed. He's the one that matters. If I never catch another bass again, it wouldn't matter to me.

Today I was daydreaming about taking him to Kenosha Harbor in a couple weeks to see if we could hook up with a salmon. Grandpa was daydreaming on how he would react. If I never caught a fish again and could fish vicariously thru him, I would die happy. At 5 years old, he'd never be able to reel in a salmon. I would make him suffer until his arms fell off. LOL

Nope I don’t think so!

This Sat I have a kayak bass fishing tournament 3 miles from my house. I’ve been waiting for this one.
I really don’t feel like going

Hardest part for me is getting myself to not go when I know I really should stay home. The number of times I've been on the water in terrible weather or when I really should have been doing something else is more than I care to admit.

If I hit the lotto, I'm hiring 25-30 year olds in bikinis to load the gear, drive the truck, and run the boat, I might even get a little fishing in... ?

nice of you to hire the elderly.  i'm going with 20 to 25 year olds.  :D

There is nothing, and I mean nothing that can get in the way of a well balanced life! I work full time yet I have plenty of time to tag tons of sharks for NOAA, go fishing for bass ALL the time ALL night long deep in the Everglades. Yet I'm still just as busy in my working world. I work in healthcare, you see, and we have not had a day off since this whole covid deal started, front lines, all that jazz. Yet everything I've said above still happens, the fishing, the fishing and more fishing and everything that goes along with the fishing, home, wife, birthdays, holidays, rental units....you name it. Balance is the key, my friend. Can do anything the mind is put to. No excuses excepted! Think like that and any perceived obstacle suddenly becomes invisible.

A month and a half straight of almost constant 100° weather has done that to me this summer.  I can handle the heat.  It's not fun.  But I spend enough time outdoors that my body adapts pretty well.  But that heat also brings the surface water temperature up.  In some lakes, it's over 90°.  The bass won't bite when it's that hot.  Not for me, anyway.  The fishing is as tough as it is when the water temp is in the high 30's.

So it's hard to get motivated to go out in the extreme heat when you know there's a good chance of getting skunked, and the best you can hope for is catching one or two bass in an 8-hour trip.  However, the fishing tends to explode once the heat wave breaks and the fish start feeding again.  And it looks like the heat wave may finally be over.  It'll take a while for the water to cool down, but I'm finally excited to get back out there!

But it sounds to me like this isn't a fishing problem, but a work problem.  I'd talk to your boss.  This sounds like the early stages of burn out.  And since you work at a hotel, you know it won't be hard to find another job.  And if they're smart, they'll know this and try to work with you.  If nothing else, the cost to replace you should motivate them to fix the situation rather than just replace and repeat with a new guy.  And if they don't care and say it's your problem and you need to deal with it, then you should deal with it by finding a job situation that works for you.  Life is way too short to waste it doing things you hate.  You don't have to love your job.  I mean, that's why you get paid.  If it was fun, you'd be paying them to do it.  But you shouldn't hate your job either.  There's a middle ground there we all can meet on if we try.

My hotel owner is a good guy and he actually forces me to take days off. But when you’re short staffed - like every business in this rural town - that’s not possible.

When I got back to the hotel today I got THREE complaints that the new guy working the front desk hung up on callers yesterday. Naturally, I fired him.

So my schedule today is 8 am until 11 pm, back at 7 am until 1:30 pm tomorrow, then back at 11pm tomorrow night until 7 am on Friday, the full days on Saturday and Sunday.

But the good news is that the rest of the front desk staff offered to pull extra shifts next week so I won’t have an insane schedule.

And yes, I am getting burned out and I came close to sending out my resume. But I made a promise to the owner for two years and I respect him so I will stay.

But it will cost him a lot more to keep me next year.

I have lost motivation to go fishing when it was really tough and I wasn't catching anything. We have had a really hot summer where I stayed home instead of fighting the heat. Then a whole bunch of rain which caused a lot of flooding.

I was planning to go one day last week but neither my wife nor I slept very good the night before. We just didn't feel like getting everything ready to go so we stayed home. Finally made it out yesterday for the first time in at least a month. Got lucky and put four in the boat.

You need rest man. You need to be rested and be ready for this. Don't go when you can only half-ass it, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Yep, sometimes, even if we're "used" to the heat it just get's to us.  Combined with working long hours sometime you just need a break.  No need to worry about not going fishing.  The fish will still be there when you're ready.

I've had only a few days off the past 2+ months, but I managed to take off Monday and Tuesday (today) this week. Monday was catching up on chores, washing the car, and just decompressing.

I set my alarm to go off at 4:30 am on Tuesday to head out on my kayak and do some fishing. By 4:50 am I was back in bed. I decided to catch up on some sleep instead. Fast forward to this afternoon, and it's an overcast day with temps only in the low 80's instead of blazing summer heat. For summertime in GA, it's actually a pretty good day to get out there. School has started and the boat traffic should be minimal.

The problem? I'm just not motivated to go even though a part of me really wants to fish today.

I think the problem is that my kayak and my favorite gear is stored at my hotel and I just don't want to get sucked into whatever has been going on at the property the past few days. Mercifully, my staff has (hopefully) handled anything that came up as I have only received one text message from them since yesterday. They know I've been stressed lately and their looking out for me.

So, have you ever found yourself lacking motivation to go fishing even though part of you really wants to get out there?

Yes. I have lacked motivation to fish for a few months now. I think it's mainly due to my tendinitis and pain. Not sure but I have not thought or daydreamed of fishing for some months. There are a few other smaller reasons maybe.

I hike and backpack and take photos while I do that. I am going to backpack and fish next week I think, but fishing depends on my pain and is not the main reason I am going. I've been photographing wildlife almost every day.

I haven't been into bass fishing for months really but I wonder if it's just from pain (and fishing really sucks here).

I had an MRI today on my wrist :) Usually I think about fishing so I don't get claustrophobic. Today I thought about backpacking instead.

I always tease that Thoreau was just a crappy fisherman when he said (paraphrased) "people fish their whole lives without realizing it isn't the fish they are after"

Now I think he is correct, at least in my case. I like being outdoors the most, I like seeing wildlife. I love animals. The fishing obsession certainly isn't there right now. It's just one reason for me to go outside.

And hiking/fishing will probably center around trout. I decided to just go with whatever I want to do and not worry about it.

when was your last doctor check up?

Too long ago except for COVID testing. I'm due for a check up, eye exam and PSA test.

It's hard to do that with my hotel schedule and on top of that I serve on 4 boards here in town. It would be easier if I could find an experienced Assistant GM.

Venting here has been cathartic. I do see a distant light at the end of the tunnel.
