Jeffrey Walker Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 I have a few Dobyns rods and I have to say that I am impressed. The rods are all very sensitive and I have come to appreciate the value they provide. I went to their site - they have soo many rods and series. I am just curious, in your experience, what rods/series do they shine. For example I found that there is a lot of love for their Champion XP Glass rods for Chatterbaits. Obviously the drop shot love is there for the 701. They have a big swimbait following with the 867 etc. Are there any rods/applications/techniques that they really shine? Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted August 14, 2022 Super User Posted August 14, 2022 I've liked every BC Dobyns rod I've fished, haven't loved any of them. I haven't found any of their spinning ones I like. 2 Quote
Phelptwan Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 I have a lot of Champ XP's and a Kaden. Their site has lists of what every rod is "good for" and it's pretty accurate. I have 12 different ones right now that all have their own uses. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted August 15, 2022 Super User Posted August 15, 2022 Sierra 734 (micro guides) is sooo good. 4 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted August 15, 2022 Super User Posted August 15, 2022 The 734 (in any series) is the shining star of "do it all" rods. Can't recommend those enough. I personally love the Champion series. The XP series is great for bottom contact baits and the Xtasy series is the high roller line. 3 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted August 16, 2022 Super User Posted August 16, 2022 There are certain models that just stick out for me. Extreme 702sf is a stellar drop shot or Ned rod. The Champion 704CB is an incredible jerk bait rod while the 705cb is a fantastic square Bill rod. The Champion 805CB is hard to beat for deep cranking. The best CB however is my favorite, the 764CB RM. The Champ 736C is a killer frog rod. The Kaden 744C is the best bang for the buck swim jig rod out there. For punching, the Xtreme 795 is the deal. And of course the do all 734C regardless of series is do anything model. These models are my must haves. 4 Quote
Cbump Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Guess it’s time to add the xtreme 702 to my list. Next rod will be the Sierra 734c for my son's birthday. 1 Quote
MidwestBassAttack Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 The Champion XP 735 is no slouch for frogs, jigs, and t-rigs! 2 Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 I have grown to really like the Dobyns rods. I have a few Fury rods that I use for miving baits (703, 733, 734, 705cb) a Sierra 734 I fish a swim jig on and another 682 I currently have small poppers on. I have a Kaden 714 rigged for texas rigged worms and a 744 that is sharing jig duties. I have a Champ 704cb set up with small light cranks and a 705cb with squarebulls up to DT10s. And a pair of 735cb glass and 736cb glass that are deeper cranks and chatterbaits. Lastly, I've got an Extreme 745c on jig duty and a Fred Roumbanis SB rid I just started thriwing 8XD and 10XD a bit. I like the various Dobyns rods for their balance, whuch to me makes them feel lighter AND more sensitive. Quote
Jeffrey Walker Posted August 20, 2022 Author Posted August 20, 2022 Anyone have any experience with the 806hsb Quote
softwateronly Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 I had and sold the 806HSB. At the time, I owned a Fury 795SB and Champ 806HSB. If I wanted one Dobyns swimbait rod to throw 8" glides and 8" Hudds, I'd lean toward the 807. If I could have 2, it'd be a 796 and 807. scott Quote
Jeffrey Walker Posted August 20, 2022 Author Posted August 20, 2022 Thanks. Is the 807 comprable to the 867. Thats what I have for Hudds and Deps Quote
Super User ATA Posted August 20, 2022 Super User Posted August 20, 2022 In champion XP They have 908 which is only rod in market can take care of X-Large swimbaits with that rod weight. I personally sold mine and I got the 807 so it will fit in my truck. There is rods that can cast those heavy big glides, but they weight 1lb plus. So the swimbait dobyns in my idea are the best rods for that application ever, Quote
Jeffrey Walker Posted August 20, 2022 Author Posted August 20, 2022 So 867 would work for Deps and Hudds 6/8in? Quote
Jeffrey Walker Posted August 21, 2022 Author Posted August 21, 2022 i see a lot of love for 764 glass rod, st least i think that’s the number, it’s a chatter bait rod Quote

Thats what I have for Hudds and Deps I would think that the 807 is comparable to the 867, but I don't know. 5 hours ago, Jeffrey Walker said: So 867 would work for Deps and Hudds 6/8in? Yes, but there's a possibility that a 6" hudd might be a little too light to get out there. The 806 was great for glides, just not my favorite with a single hook, bit too soft. I also sometimes work my baits with the rod, hence my love for the 7'9 size. scott Quote
clh121787 Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 My favorite rod of all time is the extreme hp 784. Even better than my nrx. Honorable mentions to the DX HP 746 (ultimate lake fork rod) the whole champ CB line up is great. I own 702 733 734 736 714 745 x2 784 x2 764cb 804cb 805cb 806cb 794sb 13 hours ago, Jeffrey Walker said: So 867 would work for Deps and Hudds 6/8in? The 867 will handle these just fine. Not too much rod for a 6 inch hud. In fact the 867 will launch a spro frog a country mile. Ask me how I know. 1 Quote
Friggs Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 I only have one Dobyns rod right now. Hoping to fix that soon. I have a Fury 705 CB. I absolutely love it. I want a second 705 CB because I throw a lot of topwater baits with that rod. But also use it for a number of other baits. I use PLine Topwater for my topwaters and Seageur Invisex for everything else. I'm always needing to change the reels with the different line and that's a pain. My income is limited so I have thought of getting a 705 CB in either the Colt or Maverick to save money. I would use the new rod for the topwater baits. Not sure I would be happy with one of those rods or if I should just bight the bullet on another Fury. Decisions decisions. LOL Quote

It is outstanding for swim jigs, paddletails, and spinnerbaits, and pretty good for jigs and Trigs. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted August 22, 2022 Super User Posted August 22, 2022 I only have 2. DX744; like it, don't love it. Good spinnerbait/buzzbait rod, but at bottom-contact-rod price. DX702SF; love it. Great dropshot rod. Quote
Dye99 Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 Been bass fishing for close to 30 years. In the past 5 years Ive decided to start seriously upgrading my rods and reels. Nowdays the deck of my boat has NRX+ and megabass stuff. But no matter how much I spend to get the best rods I cant get rid of my 702sf, and 765c Dobyns Champions. Half the cost but they produce, and do exactly what I use them for. Dobyns makes some great products. Quote
Jeffrey Walker Posted August 23, 2022 Author Posted August 23, 2022 I agree the more i use them the more i grow fond of them. I also like that they are technique specific and build rods for specific purposes Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 24, 2022 Super User Posted August 24, 2022 I have the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse 700C and really like it so far. It's unique in that it has a fast tip and a moderate mid-section. It's great for BFS lures where you need to set the hook but gently. The fast tip gets the hook in but the soft section helps pin the fish without bending the hooks out. Pretty cool. Quote
