Am I the only one who finds this hideous looking? Why do we need this ? Does the added weight balance the rod a little better ? Sorry but I just don't get it.

I'm with you man - it does look ugly and I can't think of one instance I'd want something like that.

Something infest the water in WI to cause them to even think of this?

What line of rods is it on ?

Thank You ~

Admittedly I'm not a Large/Plus size swimbait angler,

but I think I've seen something like that on some Mushy rods ?

Imagine it would be an extremely niche' deal for bassheads though.

Interesting.

It may not look pretty, but if you’ve used big rods and worked heavy baits, especially for muskies, you can appreciate how much effort it takes. Having that pistol grip would make working baits easier.

When I saw this in an ICAST video, all I could think of was this scene from Big and the guys at St.Croix in a room discussing how this was a good idea......

Well,... If an established company like St. Croix saw enough of a market need to make something like this, there must be a valid use.

As for me?? Yeah,... I'm not feeling it. I don't really understand how you grip it while still thumbing the spool.

Need to find a video because now I'm curious. Not saying I would buy one,... Just curious.

Would that be like the Diawa rods that the line went through the center of the rod ?

It's not a new concept. St. Croix Stole the grip from a local small business in WI and marketed it as their own "unique concept". 2 staffers left St. Croix because of this. They took/are taking a huge beating on social media over this from the Musky crowd.

Good. If they really did steal it they should be sued.

The owner of the co. and it seemed like every local musky guy came to their defense on the FB page to the point the had to start deleting/stop commenting. The grips been around from what i've read 15~ years.

If this is true that's disgusting. A huge well established business f-ing over the little guy...stealing his success. Not that its a new thing for that to happen in the business world...just gross when it does.

Guys name is ”aaron techlin” i believe who developed it for musky guys. Story goes, He developed the grip years and years ago and asked st. Croix of they would like to partner and they declined….then came the “grasp” reel seat they claim as their own and have deleted hundreds of comments on social media over the backlash.

Elk river uses his grips on custom musky rods. He makes a variety of these trigger styles like this.

I think putting cork in the middle of the reel seat was the worst idea I've seen from 'croix.  Even if you decide not to expose the blank, keep the reel seat graphite/carbon or plastic.  That cork will hold grime.

Thanks for mentioning this. I looked into it and it's true. I hope they get sued into oblivion. St Crook is the new name from now on.

Kinda funny how otherwise intelligent people can get caught up in mob mentality and come to conclusions without any facts.  Kinda scary too.

St Croix has had a strong relationship with musky fishing & the musky community for a really long time. Bad mouthing them based on just one side to the story is premature in my opinion.

Which rod line has this? I know the new Victory rods have foam covering the exposed blank on the baitcasting reel seats and that sucks. makes the rod handle bulky big time
