Anyone have one? There was a lot of hype and then.... nothing...

I'm on the fence between another Curado MGL 150, Okuma Hakai, or used Curado 70.

Everything I’ve heard has been highly favorable! I noticed in one of Scott Martin’s recent videos, there were about 5 boxes of the Hakai reels in the background that looked like he was fine tuning and getting them ready. I wonder if this might be a return to Okuma for him??

I have one. Never had the Curado MGL150, but have had the SLX MGL and a couple Chronarch MGLs, and a couple Curado 70’s and Scorpions.

The Hakai is a different breed of cat, love it or hate it. It casts great, and the mag brakes are good. It is super light. It casts lighter baits better than the MGL’s in my opinion.

The Hakai feels totally different being Mg, as opposed to aluminum.

My opinion is, for $170 I like it better than the Shimano reels I have had. It’s a steal for $170.

Bassresource please stop putting those things on your knobs.  I don't know why it is so prevalent here but it needs to end.  This cannot continue.

I've been using a Hakai for quite a bit since a little before they were released and have been very happy with it. I used it for traps in the cold weather months and now it's on my buzzbait rod. Dialing it in took a minute, seemed a little more finicky to set than most other reels, but once it was set I haven't had to mess with it again. It'll really put a bait out there a long ways without much effort too.

So I did pick up an Hakai about three weeks ago. The press material and limited reviews jumped my curiosity. I also too advantage of a discount.  The first thing I noticed is it’s light, very light .

it’s easy to palm and has the right length of handles at least:  The spool is light and has a rapid start up.  It took very little fiddling to get the cast control dialed in.  Great distance with 3/16 ounce and great control. Very smooth.  The manner in which the spool control worked through the final third of the cast is reminiscent of my Tatula Elite.  I really liked this reel when roll casting square bills and power casting jerkbaits.   It’s very fluid during the retrieve.

The Hakai has some nice features and very good casting attributes overall and just feel tight.  I’m going to match it with a 705CB and burn extensive rip rap banks the fall.  Nice reel over all.

I really like mine. It does cast light baits very well, while still being up to pitchin heavy cover. Smooth, precise feeling reel that's easy to dial in. I finally talked my wife into throwing baitcasters this year. My Hakai was the first she confiscated as she's able to get decent distance with it without having constant overruns. She's also taken over my Lew's Pro SP and both my Fuego's with shallow braid spools.

Please don't tell the monkey about this situation. We all know what he'll do to me if he finds out.
