KTT16 Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Hi everyone, I currently have my transom mounted trolling motor hooked up. The issue I have is there is no OFF switch to the trolling motor. The only way to turn it off is to turn the handle. My issue with this is if I am working on the trolling motor (example: getting weeds off propeller) there is nothing stopping this from turning back on if the handle accidentally gets hit and turns to on position. Does anyone know of a way to have a master turn off switch to this? Or is it safe to disconnect the black wire from the battery whenever I need to pull up the motor? Thanks! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 8, 2022 Super User Posted August 8, 2022 Just disconnect the motor from the battery. Quote
KTT16 Posted August 8, 2022 Author Posted August 8, 2022 @roadwarrior, Will something happen if the wire hits the metal boat? Or it hits water? Just want to be as safe as possible as well Quote
padlin Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 I put in quick disconnect like below, I can either disconnect the battery or through the breaker I added in the battery box. Using the just the control arm is an accident waiting to happen. Quote
KTT16 Posted August 8, 2022 Author Posted August 8, 2022 @padlin do you have a link? Don’t think I’ve seen this before Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 8, 2022 Super User Posted August 8, 2022 There's also this plug/socket pair from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Receptacle-Connector-Waterproof-Freshwater-Saltwater/dp/B09FKXR817/ref=sr_1_19?crid=2HUI4WQF21QN4&keywords=trolling+motor+plug&qid=1660000768&s=sporting-goods&sprefix=trolling+motor%2Csporting%2C218&sr=1-19 Quote
Deephaven Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 A battery disconnect, this is a dual. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NI58R4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Or you could buy a circuit breaker for it...which isn't a bad idea anyways. https://www.amazon.com/Circuit-Breaker-Waterproof-Trolling-Resettable/dp/B089M6Y92H/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=QSHHSY8DS1Z0&keywords=12v+breaker&qid=1660005428&sprefix=12v+br%2Caps%2C298&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExV004TVJBSEZIRkZLJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDY3NzI1RTNaT1A1NFpXRzFDJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0MDU5NDAyVFk4OUJYNDdBSjFUJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== If you just want a plug, I'd do the Anderson Power Poles dual plug.
