Super User Darth-Baiter Posted August 7, 2022 Super User Posted August 7, 2022 Mono backing ——> tape. -there is no shortage in opinions. My fishing store uses this cool knot I can’t recreate or reverse engineer. It’s solid. Lots of opinions on how to get braid on a reel. I use my shop for braid on my spinning reels. Hasn’t failed me yet and braid lasts almost forever. If the spool has wiffle-holes, can’t we knot up thru one? On a baitcaster? Just a thought. thanks. Quote

Hook2Jaw Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Those holes will reject the knot every time, and then the knot will never leave it's mother's home or get a job. Would not recommend. 3 Quote

I can spool a Fuego with 50 lb braid and almost with 40 with a frog, so I relegated it to pitching. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted August 7, 2022 Super User Posted August 7, 2022 Yup, I just tie a slip knot, never had a problem. 2 Quote
Phil77 Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Arbor knot then a small strip of electrical tape. Quote

MAN Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 I just tie the braid directly through the ported holes in the spools now if I have to use braid. Da heck with the backing. Quote

Can you cast a frog over 100 yards? I have heard others say they can spool a Fuego on a long cast with 40 lbs. braid, so I tend to believe Diawa might be over optimistic on the line capacity of a Fuego. Quote

I'm going to need some proof on this one. 65lbs braid with the right frog I can believe it. Maybe 50lbs too if it is a larger diameter braid and spooling counts as "into my backer". Quote

I have a spot in my yard where the space between 2 parallel fences is exactly 60 ft. I just hooked on and made nearly 3 runs between the two with a full spool of 40lb J8. Minus 1' each for the hooks, I'd call it 175'-ish, so just shy of 60 yards. It's spooled up about a 1/16" shy of the rim's chamfer. So yeah, 105 yards is total fiction. Try this sometime with a Curado K 200. More fantasy land. Just comparing its spool's arbor to rim by eye, it's barely any different than many 100 size reels, yet most believe it holds a ton of line, but it really doesn't. 1 Quote

No, J braid is quite a bit thinner than most other braids, and I said I can spool 50, not quite 40, but almost. Quote
Happybeerbuzz Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 I use to thread the holes on my Fuego but stopped. If you thread those holes with braid and knot it, it will hold. However, if you apply any amount of significant stress, the edges of the holes will cut the braid. It took a surprisingly small amount of tension. However, I watched Ott Defoe merely tape his braid to the spool with no knot at all so perhaps it does not matter. Quote
