Huckfinn38 Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 I bought a Shimano Bantam A a month or so ago in the 6.2:1. Throwing crankbaits and cranking with the small factory handle was a little uncomfortable so I bought a Gomexus 100mm with bigger. Now when using the Gomexus handle with the Batam I hardly feel the vibration of a DT 10. Im not sure i like this. I can still feel the vibrations a little in the rod but its almost too easy to crank. Often feels like there is nothing there. Anyone experienced this? Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted August 7, 2022 Super User Posted August 7, 2022 Yes, handle length and gear ratio should go hand in hand, and you should find what you like. I use 100- to 105-mm handles on 8-geared baitcasters. . On 6-geared reels, I'm using 88- and 92-mm handles. You can still use power knobs on low-geared reels with short-pitch handles. The 6.3-geared reel on the left, I fish mostly 3.8-g sinking finesse plugs, and always feel the swimming vibration. Both handles above are also much lighter than stock handles, with titanium spindles and carbon knob tubes. A friend put a long Gomexus double handle on a low-geared spinning reel, and couldn't keep up with charging fish. 1 Quote
Cbump Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 I have a gomexus on the way for a swimbait reel. We will see how It goes. But on a somewhat related note, I feel this way with my Zillion with factory jdm handle. The setup I currently have It on I can’t feel the bait and I’ve thought the reel was almost too smooth. Just didn’t think that made sense. Quote
newapti5 Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 No sure which Gomexus knobs you're referring to, but EVA and similar materials knobs tend to dampen the vibration from the reel. Good for geary old reels, but not great if you want to feel the bites through the knobs. Try some hardwood knobs; you'll feel all the vibrations, good or bad. Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted August 7, 2022 Super User Posted August 7, 2022 That's not exactly true. Mass dampens vibration. Heavy rubber knobs that come on most reels are the worst. Rubber is the industry-wide vibration damper. High-grade EVA is super light, still dense, and transmits plenty. I'll say again about my Zillion above with the Avail handle, matched with the right rod, I literally feel every blade of grass through that rig. Quote
Cbump Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Can you link to the avail handle? And what size for a 7 gear zillion? Quote
jslacker Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 I just got one for my Penn Fierce 3 4000 size spinning reel. It's a vast improvement over the stock handle. Silky smooth and good looking to boot! 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 9, 2022 Super User Posted August 9, 2022 I ordered one about 2 weeks ago and it finally arrived. I have to say, I am very impressed. I will need to get it out on the water for a real test. Here is a before and after of my Calcutta TE 101GT. 3 Quote
Tatulatard Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 They make a gold handle but black looks good too. Quote
