Trout have microscopic vision feeding on tiny prey and can be very line shy. Imo line diameter is more important with translucent line like fluorocarbon and monofilent. Braid is very small diameter per pound test compared to translucent line and Black Bass species will strike lures or live bait using straight braid as long as it doesn’t negatively affect the lure or bait movements. Leader has more to do with angler preference not the bass. Most bass water has a green tent so greens seem a logical choice.

Right before a bass crushes my Vision 110 with 3 big treble hooks, standing still in the water, it circles around to make sure there isn’t any line tied to it.  I don’t think so.

Then why not throw the 110 on 65 lb braid?

Fishing below TVA dams with most certainly not clear water, and the difference b/t 6lb fluoro, and 8lb mono is one guy boating fish after fish, and literally the other angler not catching a single fish.

I am convinced that this scenario has little to do with visibility and everything to do with line characteristics. Fluorocarbon sinks, mono floats. And the diameter drastically affects the action of the bait used. Based on your statement one would assume the bait was small and light and thus greatly affected by these factors; line sink rate and diameter.

To Answer your question I use Seaguar Invizx I only finesse fish so I use a leader but I do so not just because of the low visability but if it hangs up I can break it off easier. I think sometimes line visibilty and the sizeline  matters and  sometimes not but I always use a leader.

Was on a fishing charter recently in 100 to 200 ft of water.  The captain and mate were weary when I tied on 25 lb flurocarbon as a leader told him it was superstition.  Had more line breaks than anyone else but also had more bites and landed the 2 largest fish that night a 7 and 8 lb mutton snapper.   Won the pool and had the boat convinced it was probably my leader since we all used the exact same weights, hooks and bait.   The only variable was the FC leader.

I've lost faith in fluoro.

I believe it's less visible to the river smallies I hunt. But due to my own fault or otherwise I simply wont throw it.

My rivers are very clear and i throw 12#, 17# or 20# mono with confidence.
