AM-Fishing Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 I’ve been looking for a good baitcasting reel for what I do and I think I’ve narrowed it down to either the Daiwa Tatula 100 vs the Daiwa Tatula SV. I like how the Daiwa Tatula SV feels but I have yet to feel the Tatula 100. Is there much of a size difference or are they pretty much the same? Is the extra $50-100 worth it for the spool with apparently reduces backlashes? Are there any other pros to the Daiwa Tatula SV? Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 I believe the Tatula 100 and the 2020 Tatula SV are the same overall size. Careful though because the older 2017 Tatula SV is on the larger CT frame and they still sell both. The only difference is they have a slightly different part#. You can tell the difference by looking at them. The older CT framed model has 3 small openings over the levelwind and the 2020 model does not. I believe the Tat 100 has more line capacity, while the SV has the shallower SV spool that helps with spool intertia and more controlled braking and casting, but less line capacity. I personally like the SV better than the Tat 100. It just feels better and casts much more controlled. If you look around, I have seen them on sale as cheap as $160ish. Seems like Sportsmans Outfitter or someone has them on sale right now but only had right hand models ( I prefer Left-handed) Edit,...I was wrong,... Sportsmans Warehouse has the 7.1 gear ratio on sale for $154.97, but only in right hand 2 Quote

Fish from a boat doing mostly short work to targets and skipping, or are you chucking average weight baits for distance? Quote

If you aren’t doing those things, then don’t pay the premium. Quote
NavyToad Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 For $150-160, get the SV and you’ll never have to wish you had. I prefer the SV over the 100. 2 Quote
LonnieP Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 I have both and the SV is definitely worth more money 3 Quote
Yeezy Fishing Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 I have both as well and I prefer the SV. I find the SV more versatile as I have the option of throwing lighter lures if I want to. The SV also palms a bit better for me as I have small hands. 1 Quote
KP Duty Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Jig/ worm rod- Tat SV. Spinnerbait/chatterbait or anything you want to throw far- Tat 100. The SV is also capable of throwing a lighter weight bait. Quote

Anything you want to bomb, Tat 100 may be best as I find by mid season (in Canada) I have to respool the SV as my line capacity is gets low from re-tying (or break offs). Quote

I prefer the SV for how it palms and works a bait in close quarters, pitching and skipping around cover, and just plain cast control. If I could only choose between the SV and 100, I would choose the SV every time. I agree that the Tat100 has more line capacity and is better for long casts, but if I am doing that, I prefer to switch over to my centrifugal braked reels like the Shimano SLX, Revo S, or even dual braked Lews. I get more distance out of them and at least in the instance of my Tat100,.... They are smoother. 1 Quote

My '16 Zillions/'17 Tatula SV's are the best palming daiwas I own. They are slimmer and a bit taller than the current offerings. Quote
LonnieP Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 I see very little casting distance between my 100 and SV 1 Quote

I've never spooled any of my SVs (Tat, Zillion, or Alphas) 1 Quote

I’ve used alot of brands over the years and I honestly don’t remember ever thinking “This reel doesn’t cast far enough”. I guess I need to pay more attention.LOL! 1 Quote
jejenkyns Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 I prefer my Piscifun reels to my Tat100.. whatever that means. Quote
MeatHead1313 Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Another advantage I've noticed with the sv that hasn't been mentioned is it's far easier to use when casting into the wind. I fish from a kayak so don't have the ability to fly around a lake or the bayous to always have the wind at my back. I've been able to fish head on into 20+mph winds with the sv and not have any issues with backlash. Quote
