Super User LrgmouthShad Posted August 4, 2022 Super User Posted August 4, 2022 Hey ya'll, Not really sure where to put this question. I am looking to sell off my crankbait collection since it is a rare day I throw one for bass. Now, some of the terminal tackle on these crankbaits needs to be replaced because of rust. I am wondering if generally BR members, if they are buying a crankbait collection would prefer that the hooks are replaced exactly with the stock hooks they came with, or with another treble hook. I generally have shad raps, squarebills, medium divers, and some deep divers. Replace exactly with stock hooks? Upgrade with say gamakatsu/owner/mustad hooks? Switch to EWG style? What would you want if you were buying crankbaits? What is safest for me to do as the seller? I have about 40ish crankbaits. Thanks.
Junger Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 I would just disclose the condition they are in. I replace trebles depending on the brand. 1

The condition is anywhere from bad to excellent, lol. sneak peek of some of them:
KSanford33 Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 I’m with @Junger on this one. I don’t know that I’d go to the trouble of replacing all the hooks just to sell them. If anything, I’d replace them with the cheapest trebles I could find.
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 5, 2022 Super User Posted August 5, 2022 "Some need new hooks" Let the buyer replace them. 4
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 6, 2022 Global Moderator Posted August 6, 2022 I find a ton of baits and sell them for cheap. I'll clean the baits up, but I'm not replacing hooks on them. A lot of guys will want to put their preferred hooks on them anyways, so I don't see the reason to bother with putting hooks on, just for them to take off. Obviously, things like that are figured into pricing. 1
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted August 6, 2022 Super User Posted August 6, 2022 If you want to replace the hooks before selling the KVD triple grip ultra point is the best hook for the money. Widely respected & helps keep fish pinned. 2
fishinbub Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Guys that care are probably going to replace them with their preferred hooks anyways. I probably wouldn't leave rusty hooks on any of them though. I doubt it'll matter over the course of a week or so it takes to ship, but it's just a general good practice to treat rust like the plague with hardbaits. Just throw the rusty hooks/split rings away and make a note that those baits don't have hooks. Sam 1

detroit1 Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 I would just keep them. They are already paid for and you never know - down the road you might change the way or places that you currently fish. As an example in the 70's / 80's i had alot of small worms. Did not use them for years, until the dropshot rig came along. I no longer have a bunch of old, small worms...
Super User GaryH Posted August 21, 2022 Super User Posted August 21, 2022 I agree with Sam. Remove the hooks and let the buyer put on what there preference is. Clean up the baits if needed and sell.
