Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 3, 2022 Super User Posted August 3, 2022 So I have an old “cement pond” in back. Nothing works anymore. Quotes range from 1500-2000.00 to fix. So… It looks like the black lagoon. Being that we live on a lake , the frogs have found it and reproduced. The ones I’ve seen are too small to gig and eat . The pool is right behind my bedroom and office, so they are very loud( sounds like they are in the house sometimes.) Soooo I had an idea . I would catch a bass and throw him in. Which I did this morning. He’s a 12 incher, and will have all he can eat…. I’m expecting him to get big fast because of the abundant food and no competition! What will I name him?? Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted August 3, 2022 Super User Posted August 3, 2022 Cool Idea but how do we know it's a 'him' ? I'd go with Amphibius or King Harold A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 3, 2022 Author Super User Posted August 3, 2022 I’ll have to admit it crossed my mind… 1 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted August 3, 2022 Super User Posted August 3, 2022 I'm not very creative. I'd just call him Earl. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 3, 2022 Author Super User Posted August 3, 2022 Thinking I might call him “ Billy” because I had a good friend named Billy that threw fish into his “cement pond”, and he would go out and recatch them for supper whenever he wanted. He had Bass , bream and catfish in there!! Another reason is it’s a common name for a goat that are big eaters of whatever’s there, like this fish will do. And, of course, there’s the famous “ Billy bass “ mounts ? Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted August 3, 2022 Global Moderator Posted August 3, 2022 My cousins boyfriend did that with a pool that had turned green in FLA. He said the bass ate everything in there within a day or two and the water cleared instantly. Then he had to feed it lots of minnows, it was trained to follow him around 1 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted August 3, 2022 Super User Posted August 3, 2022 You need a snakehead or 2 in there, no more bullfrogs, or anything else. 1 Quote
Super User GaryH Posted August 3, 2022 Super User Posted August 3, 2022 If there Bull frogs then “The Matador” 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted August 3, 2022 Super User Posted August 3, 2022 I would name it Pool Fish. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 3, 2022 Author Super User Posted August 3, 2022 I was out there just now and there’s a big congregation of tadpoles clustered on the top step, where the water is only a few inches deep. I wonder why ?? 4 Quote

I wonder why ?? Because they live in a pond with sheer walls and they like shallow water. We used to sneak into Camp David and liveline tadpoles for huge trout. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 3, 2022 Author Super User Posted August 3, 2022 They hadn’t been there lately but today they are. Just think it’s not a coincidence that I just put the bass in this morning. Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted August 3, 2022 Super User Posted August 3, 2022 You need to call it the Froginator. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 4, 2022 Author Super User Posted August 4, 2022 It just got dark, when I start hearing all the frogs. So far , I hear NOTHING. They should be starting by now… Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 4, 2022 Author Super User Posted August 4, 2022 Well, he hasn’t gotten all of them yet. It definitely sounds like a reduced number though. These frogs make a strange croak. It sounds like they’re getting strangled… I like hearing them to a point. But out in the lake would be better… Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 8, 2022 Author Super User Posted August 8, 2022 I’m not hearing them most of the time now. I heard one this morning and that was it. Just after dark is when they were real active. As I write this( around 9:15 pm) it is completely quiet out there. Im going to feed him some other stuff like minnows, worms, and little bream just to make sure he has plenty to eat. 1 Quote
