it can be amazing.  a buddy flipped his kayak.   a bunch of relative stranger converged on the area, and rigged up treble hooks and spent real time dragging the bottom.  we found several to the owner's delight.  i mean everyone stopped fishing and kicked in to help.  for hours!

 

it was a sight to behold.  nice.  humanity recharged.

A tip if this ever happens to anyone else.  My brother and I were fishing a private lake in our kayaks several years ago and he was pedaling to a spot and knocked a rod in the water.  When I got to him, the first thing I asked was whether he marked a waypoint as soon as it happened.  He did not.  When you are moving and away from landmarks, it is difficult to find a specific location.  We drug for probably an hour but no luck.  Most sonars have the ability to mark a spot with a single button.  If you have one, do it.

When I first read this, I thought they were dragging the bottom looking for your buddy.

:D.  even then, i'd still drag for the rod/reels.  he has some nice stuff.

We get it, you aren't capable of kayak fishing for whatever reason.  I have been kayak fishing for a couple decades now and I haven't flipped one in probably 15 years and that was in current in a new kayak.  Modern fishing style kayaks are so stable that you usually fall out before you flip them which is why I asked.

i asked him.  he was turned around trying to lower his Boondox landing gear wheel.  he said the wheel is hard to pull out and when he forced the issue his body weight went way out..whoops.

Gotcha.  I guess that is where it pays to really know your kayak's initial and secondary stability oh and screw that BooneDox cart deal too lol

Even if you are not moving, even in relatively shallow water, it is amazingly difficult to find a rod that has floated down to the bottom.

 

Unless it's somebody else's and you weren't looking for it - I've hooked a couple of those. ?
