Really "Hello me it's me again" as a lyric LOL The last time I enjoyed them was the day I saw them. It was Savatage/Megadeth/Dio ticket. The one band I won't turn off is Black Sabbath. First album I ever bought(maybe stole, I don't remember) was Paranoid. I listen to all sorts of stuff now. I get my 5yo grandson in the truck and we have to listen to "Rock and Roll!" His idea of rock and roll is Pantera which is fine with me. Picture a 5yo playing air guitar in his car seat. He's the hippie kid and I'm the old bald guy if you like pantera, you'd probably like texas hippie coalition. they used to be house band at vinne paul's clubhouse. i first got turned on to pantera back when vulgar display was a new record. my buddies brought it around and i thought it was noise. it took me a couple of listens before i understood what they were doing, and i was hooked from then on. before that it was judas priest, iron maiden, and there was nothing else. pantera was a turning point for me. Luke Barnes Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 I don't know how I just found this thread. I'm a huge metalhead and have been for about 25 years. I started with Metallica, Pantera, Anthrax, medageth, and slayer. Then I discovered newer metal from around the world and fell head first into it and never looked back. Most of the bands I like no one will have heard of. They don't get played on the radio or anything. Bands like: Soilwork Circles Twelve Foot Ninja Meshuggah 2 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted January 24, 2023 Super User Posted January 24, 2023 Stay in your Taylor Swift lane, Kent. They do get played. There's relevance in original artists, irrespective of the musical style. This is a metal thread. It isn't always necessary to excel at pleasing the masses. Some of the bands in that list will far outlive and be played by interested people than anything in your playlist. That is a hard pill to swallow, coming from a pop guy as myself, but it's true. Also, I'm about to write pop songs with my wife who happens to be a gigantic numetal fan. 3 1 Quote

Hawgfinder Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 Lots of great bands so far Metallica, AC/DC, Volbeat, Slayer, Halestorm, GVF, Evanescence, 5fdp, Godsmack, Danzig, The Pretty Reckless, Roxanne, Killswitch Engage, The Cult maybe Alice Cooper because he drove my dad nuts lol never understood rap 1 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted January 24, 2023 Super User Posted January 24, 2023 Not really, does Pantera, Eruca Sativa, and rage against the machine count? I don't like or dislike music based on it's genre, but a couple of chords played as fast and loud as possible with the effects set to 11 while screaming into the mike gets old fairly quickly for me, 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted January 24, 2023 Super User Posted January 24, 2023 Listen to mostly AC/DC, Zeppelin, ZZ top growing up but now prefer more Van Morrison type stuff. There was never a day I could listen to that deep growling, screaming raspy stuff. Lol I believe it's refered to as death metal, not 100% sure. 1 Quote

Luke Barnes Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 Why the bands I listed don't get played on American rock radio? They aren't rock. They are heavier than what radio will play. Plus they aren't popular by American pop music standards. But I don't care about popularity. I like the music they make and that's really it. I went through my numetal phase because it hit when I was a late teen so of course I latched on. Quote

I can't understand stadium shows - the crowd is huge, you never sit close enough to really see the band-members, and the sound system sucks...and the prices are outrageous for the average person. That's what I loved about the Within Temptation show I went to. Skyway is a smaller venue, I was close enough that I could almost touch the band, and the sound-system is state-of-the-art...and it cost $35. Quote

I agree. But beyond this, there's really no option to see a band like Metallica. At least around here that I'm aware of. 1 Quote
