schplurg Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 I guess my hook sets aren't that big because my lures never fly out of the water, unless I had a fish for a moment. Missed hooksets, I can't remember a lure shooting back at me. If someone is yanking jigs out of the water then I'd say that's a problem with their technique, unless the jig had just hit the water. If you're fishing in a foot or so of water then sure. Yanking one out of the water that is in many feet of water, I don't think I could even do that if I tried. Lures caught in grass or other snags, yes had plenty of those shoot towards me. Fish throws my lure, yes. Hung up frog...yep! Quote

And that person is on the BACK deck. My boat is 18' long and rated for 3 persons. The aforementioned hook missed my actual eyeball by a miracle. Lesson learned. No fish is worth going through life blind in one eye. I believe that sunglasses are more important as a safety device than anything else. Good quality polycarbonate glasses are a must when fishing. I got hooked on the back cast which flipped my glasses out in the lake and buried the hook past the barb. Only a pair of ski goggles or a full face helmet would've prevented this accident. Quote
