I have a JDM and USDM Met20 and neither has any buzz. Are you calling posts by random internet users facts? The Met20 and the Bantam with core solid design are some of the best reels Shimano has ever produced.

Actually not, since the problem was fixed since 2019. Are you denying the infamous metanium buzz? Really?

Mine don't buzz and neither has any other shimano reel I've bought over the last twenty years. Must be good luck I guess.

Why not answer my question? Is this because you don't like de answer?

Anecdotal evidence = videos, pictures, reports and Shimano exchanging gear free of charge.

Seems legit...

Or... You just don't analyze or pay attention to your reels in the way that some people do, and don't notice it.  Which is perfectly fine. It would be nice to be that way.

I bought a Curado DC at the first of the year to pull cranks with. After a good bit of use this year, it is notably more "buzzy" under load than when it was new. However, I know plenty of people that would call it a "smooth" reel.

Theoretically, do you think that it is possible that a frame might deform slightly over time and use to cause the geary effect?  It is starting to sound like it is the nature of these reels and that "it is what it is".  The reel still cast like a dream.

For those who have experienced the effect, does it worsen quickly?  Anybody have any insight on how the gearyness is over time?

Short answer, no

How many people on here own a Curado 70 that is still smooth after a season or more of use?  I have found one for 50% off, but need reassurance about the gears holding up.

The original had issues with the gears getting rough but I haven't heard that about the MGL.  Same reel but the MGL gets micro mod gears.

Your fine, do not let Ska4fun's Shimano bashing get into your head. He has been doing that for a long time.

If buy it and can’t return it or don’t want to return it, you can try switch out the BNT3927 bearing that @T2DM mentioned.   Since posting this question back in 2022, I found multiple sources having success with the fix.  I have not tried it yet, but it is on my low priority “to do” list.  I even have the part wishlisted on Amazon.  The reel still works well, operationally. It’s just a little joyful to use.

Right on! I actually just replaced both pinion bearings on mine (BNT3927 & BNT4194) cause it's starting to make that "Geary, Buzzy" feel and sound again, and just like that, it's smooth and back to normal.

It’s just the nature of the beast when it gets little ware on the gears. Higher gear ratio reels seem to do it sooner. Even my metanium 150 hg has the buzz now and all my older Shimano’s except the ones with HEG gearing. Newer technology is not always better. I use my older Chronarch 50mg’s and D’s and E’s more than my newer reels with micro module gearing. I also like the 6 pin set em and forget em centrifugal brakes vs the newer style with an outside adjustable wheel. That’s just my preference.

I've also noticed that two exact same reel is not built the same, for example, I have two older 17 Scorpion DC, same gear ratio and everything but for some reason one of them is not as refined as the other, meaning I can hear a lot more "noise, etc." compared to its twin. Kinda like alignment issues if that make any sense.
