Jon Boat Setup

Hello All

Need help with setup of a monarch 12 footer. I have an old boat that was my grandpa's, it is small with a narrow(30") floor. I have have spent many hours playing with setup, as of right now I have a motorguide trolling motor,and a 5 hp chysler. The motor idles smooth but seems to not have much power pushing the boat, also the rope broke and have been removing the cover and starting it with a piece of rope off the top then putting the cover back on. I have mounted two swivel seats to the benches in the boat. Also have the wally world fish finder. Been looking into getting a bigger boat but their is no money for this so must make this boat work... I have the battery up front for weight distribution and the trolling motor along side the outboard in the back. Would like to get a foot control motor for the bow, that way I could sit in the middle of the boat and run the motor. This would help with weight distribution and stability of the boat. Has anyone done this? It is just me fishing out of the boat so moving from the back seat with the outboard to the front seat to run the bow trolling motor seems idle but what trolling motor? Should the outboard smoke a little? I got it at a yard sale for 40 bucks. Starts right up idles smooth and revs way high when not in gear, but when in gear and moving the boat does not seem to rev very high and is rather slow. Have changed the gear oil, cleaned the plugs and has fresh gas. Sorry for the long entry, newbie with tons of questions and no money, so tips on setup would be great.

Can't help you much, but can point you to tinboats forum.  A used 30lb foot controlled TM off craigslist will be sufficient for your vessel.  Good luck.

also keep in mind that the foot controls on a tm arent long enough usually to reach to center bench in jon boat!

Middle seat to front of boat is only 5 feet, unless I am way wrong should not have issue with foot control.  Any suggestion on trolling motor?

I am currently installing a minn kota 55 foot control on my jon and to where the middle seat was, i couldnt reach!  JMO

Where you at?  This seems to be stuff that you've got to look at to have an opinion.  Maybe someone here lives close to you.

Throw some pics of your rig up if ya can. Would be helpful for folks to get a look at it. Then we can overwhelm you with ideas.
