Is there a big difference between watermelon seed and watermelon red flake? Im picking up a few t-mac's and I have decided to pick up green pumpkin but cant decide between watermelon seed and watermelon red flake. Also not sure if 6.5 is overkill, I usually catch 1-2 pounders.

There are times, if you have some color to the water, a bit of red flake can make a difference.  At the cost of worms, having both is not a bad idea. Let that visibility dictate.

I like both and once again it comes down to water clarity and a bit of personal preference. Watermelon seed is good in clearer water, if you get some stain the watermelon red flake will usually do better. As it was mentioned before, go with both if you can but if I had to choose one, I'd go with the red flake. The reason is that it is one of those colors that seems to work in every water clarity other than really dirty water. As for 6.5" being overkill for 1 and 2 pound fish? No, it is far from it, I can't tell you how many 10" and 12" fish I've caught over the years on a 7" Berkley power worm.

Most watermelon reds has (seed) black flakes in them. I feel no need to buy both so I just go with watermelon red.

Watermelon red is money in clear water low light but (in my best Randy B. voice) here's the secret I didn't want to share, make sure there isn't too much red flakes (specks are better), there seems to be a lot of inconsistency, so I check the packs until I find the one with the least red, now watermelon candy, I'm not ready to let the juice out of the bag on it yet, like and subscribe...

Watermelon red is better than watermelon seed. This is my unapologetic opinion.

Yeah, something about some combinations just seem to get it done, watermelon red, GP purple flake, black blue flake, red shad no flake... :)

I subscribe to both of these sets of logic but at different times.  When I have a TW cart built and I see, "it's only $3, I might as well grab one of those too" I am following the first theory.  Then when I have to cut something out of the tackle bag because its bursting at the brim I am in the second camp.

That said, the last time I was pitching a beaver I started with a GP.  It got beat up so I grabbed a watermelon red and couldn't touch a fish.  swapped back and picked up 6 more.  Maybe the flake was too much?  Who knows.  That's what they wanted that day.

watermelon/red flake catches fish for me, plain watermelon/black flake doesn't. It's a mental thing at this point but that makes all the difference in which one I'm going to be using.

I like the watermelon seed color. I have never done any good with watermelon red in any soft plastic in that color. I will take watermelon with black flake over watermelon red any time.

Since you already have GP, I'd get the watermelon red flake. It's a lot different than the GP because of the shiny flakes, whereas the watermelon seed is pretty similar on a relative basis.

It's no secret that Bass see Red and Green the best. Red is a sign of weakness (Blood) I have always been a fan of Watermelon/red flake. Just my 2 cents.
