I currently use a 7’1” MHMF mojo casting w a Shimano Curado K 8.5:1 and 12 lb mono. Wondering if this rod is overpowered and I should downgrade to a MF.

Since sensitivity isnt an issue any broom handle I own can do the job for me.

So I can use my cheapest rod if I want to.

And it's the most fun

As long as the rod loads and casts the bait it's fine. There's no magic in fishing the WP.

Other than throwing it around fish that are willing to come and get it.

I've been throwing mine on the 7'3" MHMF Hudson special Falcon Expert.  Its a big rod and maybe not ideal but I'm experimenting with some of my options.  Its great for bigger ploppers like a 110 (it throws a 90 fine but a little lighter would be better) but with 14 mono it can cast further than it can get a good hookset.  I had a couple instances of 35-40 yard casts with a hit in the first few feet that I couldn't get stuck (I think the initial bend in the rod plus the stretch in the line).  Its no problem for 20 yard casts.  I'm experimenting with 30 lb 832 braid now with it.

If your rod is casting them fine and you're getting good hooksets then you're fine.

Either my 7’M/mod fast Powell or my Steez 6’9 Med/F with 20-30lb braid and a short leader or quality snap.

Mine is Mojo "Spinnerbait" 7' MHMF with Revo3 S 6.4:1 loaded with 17lb Suffix Tritanium Mono.

Works great for that. Centrifugal break casts it great and the gear ratio is perfect for my cranking speed.

I had that same rod set up for Spinnerbait as well. Right now I have it setup with braid and a Chattertube

I use a Dobynes Fury 705CB MH MF. Since the plopper has treble hooks I think it is best to use a moderate fast rod so you get some give in the rod and it helps keep them hooked when them jump and do what they do to try and get off. I have it paired with a Daiwa Taulla CT 7.1 ratio with Stren 12lb mono. Works great for me. I have caught at least 20 fish on this setup just this year. And one was my PB largemouth at 4 1/4 pounds. Because of where I was when I caught him I had to fight him longer than you normally would want to. He jumped I don't know how many times. And never shook the hooks. I believe part of it was from that awesome rod. I love it.

Same rod I toss my 90s on - but I'm using a Daiwa Fuego CT-H (6.3:1) as this is also my crank-rig.

If I can get up the money for another reel I was going to get a 6.3 to use for my this rod. I use it for a lot of things. Chatterbaits. Cranckbaits. whopper ploppers of course. Some small swimbaits with treble hooks like the Baby Bull Shad. Works great for them as well. I have yet to loose a fish I have hooked on that rod. When I use it for non top water lures I use another reel with 100% flouro. I can't afford muptiple rods. so I swaps reels around with the line type I need for said lure. So I have one 705 CB but use 2 different reels on it. Maybe someday I will have more rods. But since I am disabled and fish from the bank, I can only carry so many rods. So not sure that will work as I already bring 4 with me.
