Rapala X-Rap lures

Just wondering wether or not a couple of these lures are worth getting. They are very nice looking lures and are pretty expensive. Before I buy them though I was just wondering wether you guys recomend them or not. For me the rapala original floating and jointed floating work very well and I think it would only be worth getting the X-Rap lures if they work better than the original and jointed. Just wanted to know what you guys think of these lures.

I have some of them.

I have the Shad xrap and also the regular xrap in clown, perch, hothead, and glassghost.

Usually I don't use them though. Plastics are my thing but I do own them. In short.......I can't help you out because I have only fished them for a couple of casts and caught nothing.

Should get out to Lake Erie and test them out because I have a feeling that there going to be big with the smallies.

X-Raps are among the few hard plastic jerkbaits that I use. I like their aggressive action, they suspend well, and they get deeper than most of the other guys stuff. I only use them during the winter and prespawn though. I've had moderate success with them, but I'm not a big jerkbait guy

the regular xrap gets down to about 3 feet or so. but you can get the xrap deep models, which get around 8 feet i think.

The X-Rap is a great bait. To answer the original question, the X-Rap is better than the original floating Rapala, or jointed Rap, when the water is colder. The colder the water the wider the gap. In warm water the X-Rap is not as good. I have a box full of them, and in the spring, winter and fall, always have one tied on. I use one in the summer only when nothing else works, and I'm grasping at straws, trying to buy a bite.

In early fall, or late spring, you can be fairly aggressive with your retrieve. Fast rips, short pauses, etc. The colder the water gets, the more you need to slow it down. Use longer pauses, and shorter, less aggressive rod movements.

Get some. you won't regret it.

Thanks a lot man that is some good advice. Il probably get a couple but wait a while before I buy them though since they are not that great in summer. When it starts cooling down I will try doing what you said to do with them. Thanks.

The Daiwa TDMinnow (DR) will get down to about 8-10' on 8lb. test.
