I'm not talking about one of your family members dying or getting cancer or anything like that. I'm talking about things that just freak you out. I have 2. One of them is snakes, cannot stand them, I'm a big baby when it comes to snakes. The other one I recently developed. A fear of heights. When I was younger I climbed the local water tower 3 or 4 times and the height never bothered me. The last couple times we have went on vacation my in-laws have rented a condo. This last time we were on the 22nd floor and I could not go on the balcony because my anxiety got so bad it was unreal. I know you guys probably aren't afraid of anything, but some of you might be honest. LOL

I can't really think of anything in the wild

I've got a healthy respect for any dangerous animal, but not a fear. I've handled rattlesnakes and copperheads; when we lived in MA and took short vacations on Cape Cod, we'd snorkel and look for sand sharks...grab the dorsal fin and hang on for the ride.

Manmade however is a different story.

I use to free climb cliffs, go to the tops of trees no problem.

Get me in a man-made skyscraper and I'm as far from the windows as I can get. Certain bridges get me shaking...I will NEVER cross the Mackinaw Bridge again unless there is NO other choice.

Not much scares me, except the Crazy drivers on our freeways. Had many close calls that were way to close for comfort.

I lied, it's 3. I have to poop with my pants off when I'm at home. I don't want to have to fight off an intruder with my pants around my ankles. Not really scared, just prepared.

I wouldn’t say I have anything that especially scares me that I feel I can’t do much about. I’ve got plenty of stuff that spooks me but I’ll deal with it.

Little spooked by heights

Little spooked by snakes

Little spooked by hornets

Little spooked being underwater for long periods or being especially deep

But I’ll deal with em ?

I'm the opposite with this one. Got my SCUBA certification when I was 17. I've dived everything from shallow lakes to several wrecks off Isle Royale. I loved it, it was peaceful and relaxing...you just have to remember one simple rule - never hold your breath even for a few seconds.

I freaked out when I first got trained on the Fire Dept. with an SCBA (missing the U because it's not underwater) because I wasn't able to breathe calmly. It takes some getting used to.

When I got to my first duty station in the Air Force and they found out I was certified SCUBA - they made me one of the trainers for the SCBA gear in our facility.

What happens if you do? Legit question. I’ve never scuba dived but I just assumed you could just inhale to breath on an as needed basis. Learn something new everyday.

No fears of anything already stated.

Heights? The higher the better

Snakes? No problem

bit now MN gotten me a little scared to try scuba diving lol. JJ I know I’ll try scuba diving some day.

UPDATE!

I am afraid to try fly fishing. Why? Because I might like it so much and my casting and spinning gear might become glorified dust collectors, lol.

Could you explain the part about Not holding your breath.. I surfed for many, many years, and big waves can hold you under what seems like hours. Thanks.

Wearing a mask with an oxygen supply requires you to breathe normally. You cannot try to hold your breath. First time I strapped up, I freaked out.

Are you go down, the pressure of the water means you're actually taking in more air than your lungs can normally hold. At 33' down (34' in fresh water), the pressure is 2 atmospheres, so you've got twice the number of molecules of oxygen, nitrogen, etc in your lungs as you do at the surface.

Just a rise of a couple feet if you're holding your breath is enough to rupture alveoli (little air sacs) in your lungs and cause breathing difficulties...if enough aveoli are damaged, you'll suffocate because there's not enough un-damaged aveoli in your lungs to properly do the oxygen/CO2 exchange.

Surfing - ya, you're under water, but the air you took in is at normal surface pressure, so no danger of aveoli rupturing.

What are you scared of ?

Being unprepared  . . . .

It's something that drives me.

Also Charles Lee "Chucky" Ray

Not sure if it's his size, the crazy eyes or the bad hair cut,

but that psychopathic half pint gets me every time !

I wouldn't say scared but I cannot stand ticks.  If I am fishing and have a bunch that end up on me I am leaving.  I think it goes back to a time fishing a spot i wasn't planning to and pulled probably 50 of those suckers off me.  I guess in all my years of doing crazy stuff I have seen and done a lot of things that prepared me and made me realize, it isn't that bad :)

Bats kind of freak me out.  I was never real fond of them before the last couple years, and I realize that they are very beneficial to reducing the insect population, but they just bother me.  Ugly hairy flying rats with wings if you ask me.  Plus the whole global virus thing starting with a bat really kind of compounded that.  The thought of touching or eating one in a sketchy Chinese market sends shivers up my spine.
