I usually bring out 2-3 rods when shore fishing, although I often bring more in my truck. On my kayak I may bring anywhere from 2 to as many as 7, but I'm setup to store 5 in the back so I usually keep it under 5 per outing.

I have 11 (2 spinning) rods and 9 reels (2 spinning). One of the rods has largely became redundant but I haven't sold it yet. Three of my reels always get paired with the same rod, the rest get mixed up depending on conditions, so I can throw T-Rigs on 12# fluorocarbon (10# if I had it) in open water instead of 14-16# I would use if there are some weeds and so forth.

Pretty content with my collection. At some point I would like to add a swimbait setup (although I have issues storing a 8ft rod). I have a Tatula SV that I use for cranks that at some point I would sell and replace with a Tatula Elite or Shimano SLX MGL 70. Other than that, I have my bases covered pretty well.

i might have 9 total setups with 3 reel-less rods in a tube.  i am feeling embarrased with my inventory.  i only have two hands,.  i feel i have too many.  but i love them all.

I generally have 13 or 14 in the truck.   At the ramp I decide on 8 for the kayak that day.  Within 90 minutes of launching, I am questioning my decision making abilities...and calculating how long it would take to get back to the truck and swap out one or more.

I usually limit myself to 10 on the boat.   Which 10 depends on the lake I’m fishing and the time of year.   There are usually no more than 4 different combos with duplicates making up the other 6.

@BJCas

What would make you think there's actually a limit ?

?

The limit is 'what can I afford'.

The rod-locker I built in the F-9 could probably hold 20-25 rods...if I put all 13 of my bass rigs in, it's a little over 1/2 full.

3 ?

Topwater, mid-depth, & bottom contact.

But I usually carry 5

One for every bait or technique I intend to use that day: I hate wasting time on the water re-rigging if I don't have to.

I use the same principle for rods that my wife uses for shoes. Is there really a number?

I have probably 13-15 combos.

Two are dedicated panfish setups, one ultralight and one medium light.  Pfluegers trions.  6lb braid to 4lb fluoro for the UL, 8 lb braid to 6lb fluoro for the ML.

I have 3 "general purpose" Abu SilverMax combos, all MH/F, all with 15lb 8 carrier braid.

1 Shimano curado DC combo.

Revo S on a Veritas PLX medium with 10lb spiderwire invisibraid, and Revo S spinning on Veritas PLX medium with 8lb suffix promix braid.  I use these for "light duty" finesse fishing.

Revo SX on a H/F veritas TE rod for frogs/top water/a-rigs with 40lb braid.  Revo SX spinning on a Veritas TE MH/F rod I use for finesse or swimbaits with 10lb braid.

Revo MGX on a Fantasista X MH/XF rod with 20lb braid.  This is my main finesse combo.

I have a few others, but I won't bore you any longer lol

This time of year, I'm usually targeting panfish, so the Pfleuger Trion combos get a serious workout, and I sometimes bring the sx spinning combo if I wanna try for a few bass.

I try to bring as little as I can when I go fishing.

Bank 2-3.

Kayak 3-5.

Jon boat 4-7.

90% of my fishing is from the kayak. Lately it's been the same 5 combos..

1 spinning for Finesse.

4 casting for bottom contact, cranks, single hook moving baits and heavy cover/frogs.

all of em......always take 6 on the boat 3 when pond hopping.

7 total. 6 baitcasters and 1 spinning rig.

Packed for a weekend trip and settled on just 18. I'd have brought 21, but my other rods don't fill the needs of the 3 I am missing.  Sounds like a bait monkey problem.

It has. Probably a half a dozen times  year I'd bet...

Minimum.  But is better than asking "What is your favorite rod (or reel)".  Never can answer that one.

I have 21. I like technique specific though. And I like to collect things.

Guess you'd have to say I've gotten more into collecting since my fishing has gone down drastically the past 4 years.  I have a bit over that number of (could be) combos that I haven't fished yet.  Kind of sucks.  :violin-011:

I have 9 in the rod locker. 7 BC and 2 spinning. Some are there for guests and not used. Depending on what I’ve got in mind to try, I generally don’t pull out more than 4.

1 ml spinning combo, 1 medium casting combo, and 1 MH casting combo.

Bank fishing I take 1 usually.

Kayak and boat I take 2.

Location, weather, season, etc dictates which combo (s) I take with me.

As others have already indicated, the amount of combos I have is generally dictated by the storage available. My rod locker holds 7 and my deck can tie down 3 so that’s a total of 10.

When I fish in the Jon boat floating the river, I only bring 2 setups. One bait caster, one spinning.

For me, as space is limited in my 10 ft. Jon boat ,I try to only take 10 and never more than 12. And also it can be as few as 8 in early spring when my punch and frog rods are still in storage.

Walking the bank 1 is enough. Fishing from a boat as a back seater 5 max. My boat carried at least 15.

On a good day I use 1.

As I'm getting back into conventional, trying to figure this out (again). Boat can hold 13 (six secured under the gunnels).

Right now I'm back to three- M spinning, M casting, and MH casting for most days on the lakes I fish. Which is exactly what I previously. Different rod/reel manufacturers and different tapers.

If I'm on the bank it's one.. and that's cause I'm fly fishing.
