I've got a perfect record with the lottery.  I've never lost......I've also never won.   I figure every time they draw I win whatever a ticket cost.

^^ I've heard this as well...better odd of getting struck by lightning twice on same day vs. winning lottery. Not sure on the Musky part : )  ^^

Talked with a guy who worked for a company that advised lottery winners. They said if you do win the lottery, do the following immediately:

  • Do not tell ANYONE! Especially family and friends.
  • Cancel all your credit cards, close them out.
  • Cancel your phone
  • Lock down your bank account
  • Call an attorney
  • Keep going to work

Figure out how you want to accept the $$, lump sum, annual payments. Set up a trust. Figure out how much you will be sharing with kids, family, etc. Set aside some fun $$ for you and spouse. Lock down a big chunk in to long term stuff to plan for future. Then lock remainder down...so if anyone comes asking, you can honestly say, "can't access that $$."

** Yep, I've thought WAAAY to much about this stuff...I should probably buy a ticket every now and then **

My one-liner at work is this..."you will know I've won the lottery...there will be popcorn in every microwave, set to 40 minutes...and you will never see me again!"  (our office has a ban on microwave popcorn...it's a long story... : )

Depends on what state you live in. Here in IL, they make the winner a public figure. Zero privacy.

Only 11 states allow you to remain anonymous - AZ, DE, GA, KS, MD, NJ, ND, OH, SC, TX, VA.

For the rest - you become a public figure.

If you pay a lawyer enough I’d bet there’s ways around it. With that kind of coin it’s a chance I’d take.

I'm born and raised in Crook County IL. I'd have a dead relative claim it.

Nope - you have to collect your winnings/sign up for the annuity at the lottery office...and the press hangs around until you do.

SOME states allow you to do it as an LLC or Trust, which gives a bit of protection...but it's not absolute.

I'm not a numbers guy. I have 3 generations of CPA's in my immediate family, including my son. They are smart enough to figure it out.

My father got out of a timeshare, that he and my mother got every penny out of, by transferring it from a trust to an LLC and dissolving the LLC. Thank God for loopholes.

Well you guys made me go down the internet rabbit hole, and Michigan does now allow winners to remain anonymous. In fact, the third largest jackpot was won in 2021 by a Michigan resident and that person has remained anonymous.

So if I win I’ll remain anonymous, but I’ll let everyone on here know. I trust everyone on here will stay quiet, all 73,553 of you. ?

I don't buy lottery tickets, but isn't fishing gambling with "some" skills? I guess we're all gamblers.

I bought a few tickets for the last drawing and I'll buy a few more for Friday's drawing. I mean, it's over a BILLION dollars. That's stupid money.

A small house on a private lake sounds like a pretty good way to retire to me.

I bought 5 lines and did not have a SINGLE number that was drawn. Gotta have better luck tomorrow.

He’s in Sturgeon Bay right now. I’m willing to bet if he won he wouldn’t be going back to Chicago. ?

Well dam. Your picture with the grandson said you were going to Washington island, I thought maybe you bought the whole island. Cart before the horse I guess.

Some fantastic smallie fishing around the island. The season is restricted. Detroit Harbor is also known for monster northern. Biggest I've caught was around 12lbs. Saw a guy land one years ago that buried a 20 pound spring scale.

A guy hooked and lost a big pike or musky in sister bay last night. Jumped and thru the hook. Eric caught his first smallie and first rock bass last night.
