Now I know why you just let everything rust and age outside.  So no one steals it!

You got it. If I had something nice, it would probably be stolen already. The name of the game is don’t have nicer stuff than your neighbors

Its like outrunning a bear.  You don't have to outrun the bear, just outrun the other guy.

I rarely if ever buy anything from a door to door person and not sure i can think of one time actually.  I do usually let them do their routine though and then decline.  The last one who came was trying to sell some educational software so kids can learn over the summer.  I quickly stated look, I am a teacher with access to anything and everything I need for my kids so no thanks.  She was persistent and so I closed the door after declining about 4 times.

When we got windows put in we had the local place who was known as the best come out and give the demo.  I told him he was first on our list of people so we would not be making a decision today.  He persisted with his pitch and kept asking if we were going to do the deal today to which i declined each time.  it got to the point where i said look buddy i am NOT buying from you today and if you don't find your way out right now, I will help you find your way out.

When the wife and I lived in town, she bought some kind of fancy knife set and also a Kirby. Lol

Living up on the mountain the last 18 years, we've not had a single uninvited guest.

If we did, I'd certainly be polite but definitely would not buy a sales pitch.

I'm gonna guess the knife set was Cutco. One of my nephews

sold us a set when he was in college. Not expensive, and he is

family, so we obliged. Still using them to this day, and that, too

was in the 90s.

Ha Ha thanks, it was Cutco and was a very nice college kid.

Good one! I’ve had experience in sales too and I already know what they’re going to say after the first, second and third no, lol.

Soliciting is not allowed in my neighborhood but it doesn’t stop them from knocking on my door. NO X 10^10000000000000.

Never. Prior to the Virus hitting I took my doorbell button down. I got so fed up with folks waking me up between 12 - 16 hour shifts sometimes 7 days a week. I was lucky to get 4 hours after feeding up the cattle, dogs, eating, showering, etc. I'll reinstall the button when we move out.

I'm not sure that I've ever bought anything from a door to door salesperson. A few years back a boy was going door to door asking for donations to help fund some youth programs at his church. He was mentally challenged and seemed like a sweet kid so I gave him some money..maybe like $20-$30. Heard later that his parents...well known pieces of s#$%..put him up to it and pocketed the cash...at least that's what I was told. Not sure what ever happened to them. Some people are bound and determined to ruin it for everybody. Don't think I'd donate ever again regardless of the cause.

We don't get many door to door sales folks, once in a while a solar guy, or one of the "while we're in the neighborhood sealing driveways" folks. What I do see is the panhandlers at exits of parking lots or corners looking for a handout. I always wonder if their BMW is parked in the lot. Have seen the same woman a couple times this summer with 2 small girls, looking you in the eye with praying hands and mouthing "please", pretty effective, sincere or not.

In my neighborhood it’s pest control and security systems. There must be some sort of pyramid scheme situation with these pest control companies because it’s always teenagers to early twenty-something’s bebopping around on Segways.

Like A-Jay, my dogs are trained to ‘greet’ anyone who comes the front door. The security guys really are ridiculous. They will sit out in their car the whole day. Sometimes at the curb in front of my house. One time one of them insisted on coming in my house. I told him there’s not a chance and that seems like the opposite of something someone selling security would request. When he tried to hold the door open after I tried to shut it, my dogs let him know it was time to go.

Recently, one came around 9 PM. I saw him going from door to door so I turned off my doorbell so it wouldn’t wake my 5 month old who we had just had a heck of a time getting to sleep. This idiot doesn’t even try to ring the door bell but just bangs the door down AT 9 PM!

I was very angry so I met him in the driveway. He told me he knocked because he didn’t want to wake anyone who might be sleeping. If you think people are sleeping then go away. No one wants to buy your junk if they are sleeping.

I usually invite people in for a cold water and visit for a while. Haven’t been converted into a cult yet. I did buy life insurance from a man who had great references from my community . Other than that, no.

Do you close the door on girl scouts selling cookies?  LOL

Only time I see them is in parking lots with adults doing all the work. Nobody really knocks on doors around here.

I got in an argument once with someone from the Sierra Club years ago, and my friend's Dad used to argue with the Jehovah's Witnesses. It was pretty funny but he was kind of a jerk too.

I am very good at saying no to people whether on the phone or to their face, and I can be a jerk too. I find it a good skill to have, when needed.

I don't have a "get off a mah land" attitude, geez go ahead and come to my door I'd hate for people to fear for their life just for doing that! Do I live in Somalia? Oh my gaaawd someone's on mah land! Get the scattergun!

When I was a kid people knocked on doors FFS. But then we talked to our neighbors back then too. I just don't like being bothered by people. I am not afraid (how sad that so many are) just easily annoyed.

Ironically, I just had my first solicitor today since moving in May. It was some bug guy trying to sell his pest control services. I gave him a couple minutes, took a business card, and told him I’d think about it. That business card is now in the trash can.

Recently hired a crew to power wash my house and drive. I was impressed with the family's

effort to promote their business. I passed out their cards to several neighbors to help them

grow their little enterprise. Great job at a reasonable price.

No.  Only because they don't ever sell fishing tackle door to door.  If they did, the salesmen might as well  move in to the closest motel and save himself some driving time.

I give them the time if I have it to give - I've learned a lot from sales oriented individuals. It is a world full of opportunity and believe it or not - sometimes there are good ideas / products / services / opportunities that "sales" people can bring to your attention which will provide you with value.

Have you ever benefited in fishing from some sort of "sales" tactic? I'm certain most have.

Yeah it's called Tactical Bassin on youtube ?

I've bought maybe $100 worth of baits from videos, but the info on retrieves, and other actual info has been truly exceptional in practice.   Those dudes know what they are doing.
