I just bought a Shimano Bantam Coriolis co-100 from eBay and I cannot find the right owners manual online. There is a lever next to the spool tension knob and I have no idea what it does. The only marking says "F" and I wanted to know if anyone here knows what it does. image of what I'm referring to: https://postimg.cc/jn5TBx9q

It likely engages/disengages the anti reverse.

On the schematic I found, it's labeled 'Flipping Lever'.

That makes sense.  Ok, so that probably means the spool reengages the gears when you let off the thumb bar.

I'll definitely check that out after work, thanks!! I appreciate the information.

I tested this and it is true, when the lever is flipped to "F" you hold the thumb bar down as you cast instead of just depressing it and when the lure hits the water you release the thumb bar so free spool disengages. Why is this not still present on modern baitcasters???

There have been a few recent reels. I'm have a Pinnacle from a few years ago that has a similar feature. It a button on the top that you press to renegade the gears. Fairway had hopping bars up to a few years ago on reels that did this. I have a couple TD-X HSDL flipping reels from 15 or so years ago that are meant for pitching.

My Lew's Super Duty SDG1XHF has a flipping switch.

You can't randomly bump this, you have to really want to move it.

It's also a nice feature for vertical jigging.

You use it when you may want to set a hook before you have time to turn the crank.

Any time you push the thumb bar, it lifts the pinion from the spoon pins.

It normally locks the pinion in that position for freespool, and you unlock it by turning the crank.

The flipping switch defeats the lock, so when you let go of the thumb bar, the pinion spring pushes it instantly back onto the spool pins.

I have a few reels with the flippin' levers. My favorite 2 are my Shimano Castaics I got around 2001 or so. Still very very smooth reels and cast/flip/pitch like a dream. These are amazing reels for flipping and pitching.

I also have a very old Team Diawa Pro Caster PR1-5Bi that has the flipping lever. I just fully rebuilt it with all new gears, bearings, and drag disc. It is better than new now, the upgraded hybrid ceramic bearings helped to make it an excellent pitching reel, the carbon fiber drag disc were a needed upgrade as the old drag disc were jerky and not very good.
